Mars Black
Steve Smith AKA Mars Black, is a self-taught artist born in 1975 in Macclesfield, England. He transitioned to full-time painting in 2002. Known for his surreal and whimsical depictions of animals, primarily cats, his work explores existential and societal themes, including modern life and human-animal relationships. Through personal introspection and bold humor, his art invites deeper reflection. Blending vivid colors, quirky imagery, and humor, Mars Black creates playful yet thought-provoking scenarios that engage with contemporary issues. Working primarily with acrylic paint, his style combines realism and surrealism, resulting in what he describes as "snapshots of a dream reality.”
