cassidy’s heart shatters at his words. her and brent have been through...well what haven’t they been through? and now he’s leaving her behind. they’re docked only a few hours from her home and while cassidy had been happy to be able to see her sisters, this wasn’t how she had imagined things going. especially not with her ever growing feelings towards the captain. “i think you’ve finally managed to leave me speechless,” she admits, unable to meet his eyes.
scuffing the toes of her sneakers on the ground, she doesn’t know what to say. “i still want to go with you. now...when i first joined your ship it was all about finding grimoires and learning more. i know that it was supposed to be temporary but we’ve been through a lot and i don’t want to leave.
“captain i don’t need you to stay, i just want to go with you,” she admits. “only now...now i think i want to go to be with you, not just to travel with you.” cassidy can’t help but blush and her ears turn pink at the tips. finally meeting brent’s eyes she gives him a sad sort of smile.
“how about i give you a reason to take me with you instead,” cassidy suggests softly. stepping forward she places a light kiss on the corner of his lips, hoping it will persuade him.
It was all true- they have been through a lot, perhaps a lifetime worth of adventures for some people, but Brent knew when it was over. He did not want to drag her any more places with him, especially after the scares. There were too many times her life was in peril, and being the cause of it was giving him unbearable guilt.
She was calling him captain, and it was not due to sarcasm, or being forced to say it like from their initial moments of meeting. It was out of respect, and now when she called him by the title there was such a feeling of vulnerability that was so prevalent it was almost palpable. It was from her side, and from his own since he felt like his heart squeezed.
Cassidy.... wanted to go with him. He made the mistake of looking into her eyes, because each time he did so, he was easily persuaded. Even the first time he met her, it was the fiery look in her eyes that made him realize that no person would ever make a better sailing crew member than her. Her blush got him a bit confused, unsure if she was embarrassed for some reason, by either her own words or the way he was gazing at her, so he averted his gaze. Biting his lips, he finally broke out into a grin and was ready to agree when he felt a kiss on his face.
Now it was his turn to blush. Oh- he was stupid. Had he not realized that she was perhaps into him? He wondered if this was true, and out of confusion he asked a question, and the first one that popped in his mind was what he asked out loud.
“What would be the reason?”
