We are now one step closer to living in a world prophesized by the Jetsons and 80s Science Fiction movies.
Thanks to the hard work and ingenuity of New Zealand inventor Glenn Martin and his New Zealand based, Martin Aircraft Company, it will soon be possible to acquire your very own personal Jetpack.
The Martin Jetpack consists of a two-stroke, 2-litre V4 engine generating up to 200 horsepower, which can reach a cruise speed of 35mph, capable of carrying a maximum load of 720lbs and hitting a ceiling height of 3000 ft. The Jetpack’s 45-litre fuel capacity allows for up to 30 minute –you won’t be able to make a whistle trip from New York to DC just yet, but it’s a start.
The Martin Aircraft Company is promising to have the jet pack available to first responders like policemen and firemen in mid-2014 and to the general public in 2015 for a price tag of around US$100,000 a piece.
The prospect of being able to look smugly look down at those stuck in traffic, certainly makes the price tag more than palatable!
