DAY TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-FOUR - 7/28/17
“IMAGINEER: A SHORT TRIBUTE TO MARTY SKLAR” by DJS
Marty Sklar passed away yesterday. For those who don’t know, Marty was a mainstay at Walt Disney Imagineering and the Disney parks for over 50 years. For a good chunk of that time, he was President of Imagineering. By all accounts, he was an incredibly creative and inspiring person. He was even there working on opening day at Disneyland, with this short play dramatizing a moment from that day.
Acknowledgments must be made to a Vanity Fair article published today for the inspiration: http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/07/marty-sklar-disneyland

There is a feeling of general chaos, with Marty caught in the center trying to help a bunch of guests at once.

Mister Parker, yes, uhhh, how can I, I mean what do you, can I be of—
Yeah, I gotta get backstage.
Quick! Before he hurts somebody! The horse!
Oh. (small pause) Oh! Yeah, yeah…
Over here. Uhh, yeah, just let me try and clear a— Okay.
(to crowds) HELLO. EVERYONE? SORRY, CAN I—WE JUST NEED TO GET MISTER PARKER THROUGH HERE. HIS HORSE NEEDS A LITTLE WATER, YOU KNOW HOW IT IS, A LITTLE DRINK. THEN WE’LL BE BACK OUT AND YOU CAN TAKE PHOTOS— ALL THE PHOTOS YOU WANT, AUTOGRAPHS—IN NO TIME. THANK YOU, THANK YOU THAT’S—
(to Fess) Right this way, Mister Parker.
(The crowd parts, making a path for Marty and Fess on the horse.)
‘preciate it, kid. And I’ll be sure to mention how you helped me out when I see the boss next.
Oh, you don’t have to do that Mister Parker, I mean I was just doing my job—
A man with that much clout, who could single-handedly make your career, you can get on his good side, only a fool would pass up a chance like that. So just say thank you and leave it at that.
Thank you, Mister Parker.
(pointing to his nametag) Marty. Marty Sklar, sir.
Marty. Well, good luck. And welcome to the Walt Disney Company.
(Marty watches Fess Parker ride off on his horse, somewhat amazed. Fade out)
