so ordered this signed copy of Loki (the book) and thought it was going to be ok. BUT OMG this book is so good. it’s everything i wanted to see in loki and more. LIKE the writing is so good and i enjoyed every second of it. if you are able to read this book PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read it!! it’s one of my fav books now :,)

Titan Consumed: GAMORA AND NEBULA

Sixth post about MCU official Thanos novel (with spoilers). This annex is about Thanos, Gamora and Nebula, in my opinion the most interesting part of the book.

 During the fourth chapter (SOUL) Thanos attacks Zehoberei with his army and joins the Chitauri at the surface of the planet. His encounter with Gamora occurs almost in the same way that is showed in IW. The novel expands Thanos’ thoughts about Gamora: he is pretty impressed about the girl’s behaviour, exposing herself in order to protect her mother. To Thanos’ eyes, Gamora has the potential to become his right hand and potential successor with the precise training. Quickly, Thanos starts to call her “his child”.

Gamora isn’t idiot. Even if she is very young, she knows the difference between being “saved” and “spared”. She asks Thanos why was the fate of her people inevitable, why have Thanos to kill half of them and why was her pardoned. The answers seem somewhat strange, but she ends accepting them.

Gamora starts training with the Chitauri, fighting them every day and learning how to use some weapons. Thanos attends personally her wounds after each session. Little by little, Thanos’ assistance, power and determination starts to increase Gamora’s trust. And soon he decides that Gamora needs a sibling.

The Black Order brings orphans from many places, hoping one of them will be accepted by Thanos. In the end, Thanos pay attention to a little, hairless, purple-tingled blue girl that could almost be his real child. He chooses her because that reason, even she is too skinny and physically inferior to Gamora.

During the first days both girls become friends and get along very well. Then Thanos realizes they are thinking on each other as an “ally”, and he can’t allow that.  So, he starts to manipulate them to be always in conflict, always fighting, always confronted. Gamora always best Nebula, yet she never tries to kill her. And Nebula “never lost, but never came close to winning, either”. Cha warns Thanos about the girls he is raising, about the inevitable hate they are going to develop for him. But this is precisely Thanos’ objective: he “allows them to hate him because it makes them think they still have choices and free will”; “while children may hate their parents, they rarely raise a hand to them”, as his own experience taught him. Thanos is brainwashing the two girls in order to make them loyal and dependent of him.

Nebula is always happy to see her Father paying attention to her. Gamora is more stoic. One day Thanos decides that Nebula needs more motivation to fight Gamora, and Gamora needs a proper opponent. He starts by jamming his thumb into Nebula’s left eye and command Cha to get a new, enhanced eye for her. After that, he ask Gamora if she thinks that he is cruel, planning to kill her if she lies; Gamora answer “yes”.

Gamora and Nebula’s life continues that way. They grow up and “could not stand to be together, could not abide being apart”, “their emotions had become twisted parodies of love, hate and devotion. They yearned to kill Thanos, to kill each other, perhaps even to kill themselves, and yet their desire to prove their own superiority overrode those urges”. One night Gamora tries to kill Thanos while he is sleeping, but she doubts and Thanos awakes. Even he insists her to do it, she doesn’t dare. Next day Thanos punish her for her fault; “In his own way, he loved the girls, but he did not entirely trust them”.

One day, while the three of them are on their way to Lorespeaker planet, Gamora asks Thanos about Cha’s murder. She wasn’t supposed to know that such thing happened, but she and Nebula have worked this out together. Apparently, it’s the first time both girls work together, somehow -Cha was the only adult nice to them-.

Finally, when Thanos is under Lorespeaker mind control, Gamora and Nebula shows up in the last second and save him, yet Gamora is the only one praised. Thanos is surprised -the girls were told to wait on the ship, yet they decided to go down to the planet. When the girls admit they were worried because they never have been so much time without him Thanos thinks: “the brainwashing is complete”.

So, the plot and the more important details (imo) of the novel are covered. I will probably write my opinion about it eventually. As always, corrections, additions, opinions or whatever are welcomed 😊
