Spotlight:
What story are you working on for the book?
I wrote Marvelo: Monarch of Magicians with art by Bobby Trauma and colors by Esther Pimentel.
What public domain characters are you using and what's the best thing about them?
We used Marvelo, a magician vigilante originally created by Fred Guardineer and seen in Big Shot Comics. Marvelo has almost unlimited power. With just an utterance of his magical catch phrase, "Kalora," he can make anything happen. I thought it would be fun to play around with his powers and tell a wacky adventure story.
What was the first comic you remember reading that really hooked you into them?
The first comic I remember reading was X-Men #16 - X-cutioner's Song, Part II. It blew me away! I was already a fan of the X-men from the animated TV show, so when I realized they had their own comic, with more characters, and more action, I was hooked. Plus, it was drawn by Andy Kubert--how could it not make a life changing impression on me.
What attracted you to the Not Forgotten project?
I thought the concept was great. It's a book I would buy and read as a fan. For me it was also an opportunity to write a character I didn't create, and try to capture their spirit in a modern story. I very much enjoyed my experience and how the story came out.
