The Devil’s Seamstress of Scaosia and the Sailor’s Serpent make for a fascinating scene in the starlight.

In this universe’s lore, the city of Atlantis (or the equivalent, we haven’t come up with an original name yet) was saved from certain destruction by the Sea God, who transformed the people into mermaids so they’d survive the city’s descent. During the sinking, there were only a select few who were turned into mermaids through the Sea God personally. Those few were given a gift, able to transform their neighbors into mermaids through a kiss. From there, these mermaids spread across the oceans, starting a massive trade network with both mermaid and human civilizations. Some human civilizations are more accepting of mermaids than others lmao

Mary is a lone mermaid, who has an unfortunate (but not unwarranted) reputation for wrecking hunting and whaling ships that come near her island. Kylen is a wanted pirate who’s had friendly trade with mermaid merchants in the past, and doesn’t understand why this freaky catfish won’t let her crew take refuge for a few days. Their relationship is initially fraught with misunderstandings and insults, but eventually they bond over their hatred of the British (or the equivalent, again, lack of original name 😭). Obviously, Mary ends up using that ancient kiss because they 💖love each other💖but it’s getting to that point that makes the whole story super fun.

Kylen is my OC humanized for the purpose of this AU, and Mary belongs to my lovely bestest friend @holidamned. Their fishy forms are based off an albino catfish and a sandbar shark, and I love them both dearly 🥰

(Originally posted on January 8, 2024) FIRST POST OF THE NEW YEAR AND MARY MONDAY IS BACK (with a redesign, courtesy of her wonderful creator)!!! So glad to be back to work, and hope y'all are enjoying the return of this lovely lady as much as I am

Wanted to do a lil portrait to ease y'all into the redesign that she had, as well as have some fun with her outfit and lighting. The flowers, the gloves, the hair, the facepaint under her eyes, all amazing details that I'm overjoyed to know the story behind (ask her creator @holidamned for lore if you wish). I hope to get another Mary Monday post out sometime this month so I can really get back into the groove of things, but I won't be making any promises lol
