A Night Under Polaris - Date Masamune
So she talked, about the thirteen stars that formed the constellation, about how it moved throughout the year until it turned upside down... Or so said the books.
A/N: If I didn’t post this, Crystal was seriously going to take a plane and come here just to slap me and I’m not taking the risk. Again, this is part of our RP universe. I wouldn’t say it’s backstory for Masapora, but let’s say it’s just one of their cheesy moments because fluff is life. RP created by @kanarenee, @a-night-on-polaris and myself.
A Night Under Polaris
The cold breeze blew among them, the wind quietly playing the pink curls of Pora's hair. She seemed not to notice, her eyes focused on the night sky; it was clear, a perfect view of the stars glimmering high. And yet, Masamune was far more interested in the sight in front of him than whatever spectacle the sky could offer.
"I can see some constellations." She whispered, her voice full of amazement. Her hands took hold of the veranda, supporting her weight as she leaned towards it, trying to get a better look without the rooftop.
He moved closer, suddenly curious about what could it be that had her so excited. Masamune knew the stars were beautiful; he took special pleasure in admiring them, the quiet night surrounding him while he lost himself in the pretty light of them. And still there was something about the way Pora held herself now that told him it was more than how amazing they looked.
"Constellations?" He dared to ask, glancing at the sky but having no idea what she was talking about.
Of course he knew what constellations were, but he had never been able to spot one himself. He had seen the drawings in some of Pora's books, the way they connected the stars to make those figures, but he didn't quite understand how it worked. His wife, on the other hand, seemed completely absorbed in the sky, her eyes already joining those glimmering dots.
"Yes. Look." She pointed. "That group on the right is Cassiopeia's constellation. She is Andromeda's mother."
Masamune nodded, though he was not really sure who those people were not did he think their names were common. A smile grazed his lips at that thought; he should not be thinking about anything common when he himself was anything but that. He reached for her, then, his arm around her waist, trying to protect her from the cold. Pora smiled, though she kept explaining.
"It's formed by those stars: SHEDIR, Caph, Ruchbah, Segin, Achird, Marfak..." Her finger showed him each one, while his eyes followed the motion. "It's part of the story of Perseus and Medusa."
"I think I can see it." He said, though he was not really sure if he was seeing the same thing as Pora or it was just his mind trying to keep up with her.
Moments like this one showed him just all the things that he had yet to learn about his wife; all the knowledge she had, all these new parts of her that were so attractive, and curious, and cute. Because she was cute. The way her eyes glimmered with the same intensity as the stars, with all her exciment and that soft smile on her lips as she talked about it.
He would never get tired of listening.
"That one is Draco." She looks at him, just for a second, with a bashful expression. "It means The Dragon."
Then, Pora turned her eyes back to the sky, warmth overwhelming her at the sight of her husband's affection wavering in his eye. She kept talking, because now all nervousness had taken control of her body and it was better to keep it going than give space to the silence. So she talked, about the thirteen stars that formed the constellation, about how it moved throughout the year until it turned upside down... Or so said the books.
"Thuban was the North Star some thousands of years ago, now the North Star is Polaris." She felt him move closer, like the mention of where her name came from drawn him to her. "And they say in another thousands of years the North Star will be Vega."
Masamune laughed. "Well, not even in a million years you'll stop being my star... So that's alright. Vega can have its chance, but you'll always be the one for me."
Pora looked at him, stunned at the smile he offered her, and then she laughed too. It felt right and intimate, being close like that. Being all alone, under the night sky while she talked about constellations and he listened like it was the most interesting thing he had ever heard.
Maybe it was.
"In a million years we won't even be here. But the stars will." She smiled, resting her head against his chest. "Perhaps that is why they are so beautiful. They're timeless."
"That might be it", Masamune reached for her, his hand taking hold of her chin and making her look up. His eye locked with the green of her gaze, and he found himself smiling. "but these stars are nothing compared to the ones I've seen in your eyes."
