The Shape Between
This dropped on me like a badly secured window air conditioning unit.
When we say all men are bad, all masculinity is toxic, we're basically straight up telling trans masculine people their identity is bad.
That's what I was missing in the trans feminine/trans masculine gap, the nagging thought.
We're doing the same fucking thing to trans men as is done to us, telling them they're wrong and bad and dangerous and predators, and we haven't even noticed because of how broad the generalization is. But it's the same.
In queer spaces there's a tendency to berate masculinity mercilessly. Anyone who to one degree or another has a masculine identity component is just constantly being told their identity is bad and they should feel bad.
It's "you are bad and wrong and you're not allowed" on one end for trans feminine, and "you're making yourself bad and wrong and should stop" on the trans masculine end.
I feel like I need to process this more.
