at first the officer is confused about the frontman’s apparent fascination with player 456; the man is a liability that doesn’t contribute to the games or to their (read his) success in any way, it would be much easier—and efficient, to just eliminate him and be done with it.
however, once player 456 has been successfully captured after his little failed uprising—again, they suffered terrible loses and dead people are useless for business, he starts to notice things:
the rage that burns in his eyes even through the bitter tears, the screams of terror that fill his sleepless nights, the way his fists shake every time one of his guards delivers a meal… there are so many emotions, so forceful and blinding.
it is all so intriguing. player 456 is intriguing—and perhaps the officer now understands the boss and his unbidden fascination.
