Mass Animation for All Souls Day

INTRODUCTION:

All Souls Day is a day when we remember and pray for the souls of the dead. It is an opportunity to remember those who have passed from this life.  In the Christian faith we believe that death isn’t the end. Death is the door to eternal life. Jesus came to show us that life doesn’t end with death. His resurrection from the dead gives us hope that we too will rise on the Last Day. During this month of November we are invited by the Church to pray for the souls in Purgatory. Purgatory is a state where the soul is undergoing the process of purification before it enters heaven.  In this Holy Mass let us pray for all the souls in purgatory that they may be purified of all their sins and be taken into the glory of God and the joy of His presence.

READING OF THE NAMES OF DECEASED FAMILY MEMBERS (before offertory)

Lord we pray for these our parents, grandparents and siblings who have left us. Have mercy on them and receive them into your heavenly Kingdom.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL:

RESP: Merciful Father hear us

Cel: To you, O God, the dead do not die, and in death our life is changed, not ended. Hear our prayers for our departed brothers and sisters that they may dwell with the saints and rise on the day of judgement.

1.      We pray for the Pope, bishops, priests and religious that they may be shining examples of prayer and respect for human life.

2.      We pray for those who are creating violence and disturbing the peace, may they experience a change of heart and turn away from their evil ways.

3.      We pray for victims of violence and aggression that they may find consolation and hope despite the apparent hopelessness of their situation.

4.      We pray for those who have died that God may have mercy on them and welcome them into heaven.

5.      Let us pray for our personal intentions and the intentions of the house.

Cel:

Lord God, you are the glory of believers and the life of the just. Your son redeemed us by dying and rising to life again. Since our departed brothers and sisters believed in the mystery of our resurrection, let them share the joys and blessings of the life to come. We make this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Mass Animation for All Saints Day

INTRODUCTION:

The Church celebrates the feast of All Saints to honour their memory and to invite us to imitate their example. God has given each of us a particular call or vocation. Some of us may be called to become leaders, others teachers, others managers, some priests and so on. But all of us have a primary vocation as human beings and that is to be children of God. All the saints were aware of their identity as God’s children and they did their best in their own way to live out their vocation. Let us ask God our heavenly Father in this Eucharist to help us to live as His children so that we may give Him glory here on earth and later join Him in Heaven.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL:

CEL: Dear brothers and sisters, the saints are exquisite masterpieces of God’s work. Besides those officially canonized or beatified by the Church, there are countless others who have lived holy lives and now behold the face of the risen Lord. We pray that everyone who has put his faith in the name of the Lord may live a life fitting to his Christian call.

Resp: Lord help us to be holy

1.      Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect. Let us pray that the Church led by the Pope and other Church authorities may teach the right way to God, we pray... 

2.      Jesus renounced wealth and its attractions. Let us pray that imitating Jesus we may choose to live a life that is not attached to worldly pleasures, we pray...

3.      Those who have suffered injustice long for justice to be done, we pray that all those involved in delivering justice may do their job swiftly and honestly. We pray...

4.      We pray for those who are denied their rights that they may experience the joy of living fully human lives and achieve a spirit of liberation. We pray..

5.      We pray for ourselves that we may respond to the invitation to become saints. May we think what is good, speak what is good and do good to everyone. We pray...

CEL: God our Father, we thank you for challenging us to achieve sanctity of life which is the hallmark of your Divine life. Left to ourselves we cannot achieve this high goal. Give us the grace that we may always live our lives focused on our vocation to be saints. We make this prayer ...

Mass Animation for Feast of St. Vincent de Paul

INTRODUCTION:

St Vincent de Paul was born on 24th April 1581 in France. He was the third of five children and his father paid for his seminary education by selling the oxen. His intention for joining the seminary and becoming a priest was so that he could become wealthy and later support his family. He became a priest at a young age and then continued with his studies. In 1617, he formed the group ‘Ladies of Charity’ by organizing some women belonging to his parish. In 1622, he became head of the Congregation of the Missions or Vincentians. Vincent helped reform the clergy and the manner in which they were instructed and prepared for the priesthood. He did this first through the presentation of retreats and later by helping develop a proper seminary system which is followed till this day. His heart has not decayed and his bones are preserved in a wax statue in a church in Paris.

In this Holy Mass let us pray to this good saint asking him to fill us with love for God and for man and to help us reach out to all those in need.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL:

CEL: God of all things, You have made us all in Your image and likeness. You fashioned us in love and willed that we be loving like You. Listen to the prayers we make to You and grant us what we need.

RESP: Lord hear us in Your mercy.

1.       For the Pope, bishops, priests and religious that they may live as true witnesses of the Gospel even in the face of ridicule and persecution.

2.       For civil leaders that they may focus attention to the upliftment of the poor and marginalized and be careful not to relegate them entirely to the peripheries.

3.       For those without the basic amenities of life that they find their sustenance in the Providence of God and in the kindness of their fellowman.

4.       For those preparing to become priests and religious that they may take their training seriously and model their lives on Jesus the Good Shepherd.

5.       For ourselves that we may learn to value people and treat them with the respect and dignity that is their due.

CEL: Loving Father, You sent Your Son Jesus to show us the way of love and service. You Yourself never shied away from reaching out to those who were lost and forgotten. Change our hearts so that we may reach out to those in need, those who have no one to help them and those who have lost their way. Make us beacons of light so that others may see our lives and know what it means to live a life based on Gospel values.

Mass Animation for the Feast of St Mother Teresa

INTRODUCTION:

Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxa in Skopje (modern Macedonia) to Nikola and Drane Bojaxhiu. After having lived in Macedonia for eighteen years, she moved to Ireland and then to India, where she lived for most of her life. She was fascinated by stories of the lives of missionaries and their service in Bengal, and by the age of 12 had become convinced that she should commit herself to a religious way of life. She arrived in India in 1929, learnt Bengali and taught at St. Teresa's School, a school close to her convent. She became a nun on 24 May 1931. She was happy in the school environment but began to feel disturbed by the extreme poverty that lay just outside the convent’s secure walls. She felt called by God to improve the situation of the poor and went on to found the Missionaries of Charity, which in 2012 consisted of over 4,500 sisters and working in 133 countries. This day is special for us Indians because Mother Teresa although not being an Indian showed us what it really means to be Indian and that is to care for our brothers and sisters. On this day she will be canonized a saint by Pope Francis. Let us join the Church in praying to her and asking her to make us people of mercy like she was. Let us pray for all the sisters of her congregation, that they may draw strength from the Eucharist like she did and work tirelessly for the good of the children of God.

PENITENTIAL RITE:

OFFERTORY:

White sari – Lord we offer you this white sari which stands for purity. Mother Teresa lived a life completely dedicated to Your service. She tried her best to remain pure to please You. Help us to be pure in thoughts, words and deeds.

Book and pencil – Mother Teresa said that she was happy to be pencil in Your hand Lord because she believed that You would write what was best with her. We ask You to help us with our studies as well as to make us obedient children so that we may become good, honest and responsible persons in society.

Bread and wine – Lord we offer You this bread and wine and ask You to change our hearts as well. Fill us with love for our companions and our fellow men and women. Make us people of mercy so that we may spread love and not violence.

Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

Introduction:

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as patroness of the Carmelite Order. The first Carmelites were Christian hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land during the late 12th and early to mid 13th century. Since the 15th century, popular devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel has centered on the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel also known as the Brown Scapular associated with promises of Mary's special aid for the salvation of the one who wears it. Traditionally, Mary is said to have given the Scapular to an early Carmelite named Saint Simon Stock. In this Eucharist, let us ask God to help us and protect us on our journey through life. Mary is our loving mother and she is always by our side. Let us pick up the courage to live our lives honestly; always seeking to do God’s Will and to become saints.

Prayer of the Faithful:

Cel: Almighty Father You designed that the Blessed Virgin gives the brown scapular to St. Simon Stock in order to build up the faith of the people. We are people of little faith and we ask you today to help our little faith. Enable us to see the wonders that You work everyday of our life and teach us to trust in You and Your Word.

Resp: Lord listen to your children praying.

1.      For the Pope, bishops, priests and religious that they may devote their energies to knowing God’s Word and working for the Kingdom of God.

2.      For the Carmelite family that they may be blessed with more vocations and that they may continue to strengthen the Church through their devoted service.

3.      For missionaries that the Lord may give them the strength and courage to carry out their work despite the trials and difficulties they encounter.

4.      For those who suffer persecution because of their race, religion or gender that they may experience the consolation of being Children of God and find someone who will help them stand on their own feet.

5.      For ourselves that we may learn to trust in God and to discover what He has made us to be.

Cel: Lord of all things, out of the immensity of the things You have created You are yet attentive to us, small and insignificant human beings. Help us never to grow complacent of You and of the faith which our ancestors have passed on to us. Open our eyes to the reality of Your awesome nature and make us authentic witnesses of Your love, peace and mercy. We make this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.
