Lightning struck shard of wood, Collected from Camp Forester, Massawepie. If you have never witnessed an Adirondack Microburst, it is a sight to behold. Every thing goes dark and still and before you know what is happening the storm rolls in. I was 11 years old, and at Camp Forester when I witnessed my first mountain storm. My troop was at the archery range when the storm rolled in. The range was on the edge of a large clearing known as the “dust bowl”, which was a large open dusty clearing about the size of a football field, it was the last place you wanted to be in a thunderstorm. I remembered huddling next to my father under the completely inadequate tarp listening to the wind howl and the crack of lightning striking trees.
