The Princess of Wales during Trooping The Colour on 13 June 2026 in London, England.

Trooping The Colour is a ceremonial parade celebrating the official birthday of the British Monarch.

The event features over 1400 soldiers of the Household Division and King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, including over 400 musicians from the Massed Bands.

My hometown.

I love massed bands, and I love amateur music making.

I think the four bands are Thurso Pipe Band, Wick Pipe Band (the better band), Caithness Juniors (one of the two teaching bands), and some band far Germany. (There’s a fifth band but I’ve nae idea who they are)

Events like this and even just regular performances by the local band at weekends were a big part of growing up in Thurso. No competition playing, just good fun local music making. The town’s pipe band would play at public events and festivals and everything really. Always and absolute joy.
