The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
2022.15
I've fallen a bit behind on this blog, so trying to catch up now on all the movies I've seen in the theater the past 2 months, starting with this instant classic. I don't think enough people saw this in theaters so I hope it finds a second life streaming somewhere soon, because it deserves to have everyone's eyes on it.
Nicolas Cage is at his Nicolas Cage-est as an exaggerated version of himself....although how exaggerated is probably open for debate. I'd like to think this is pretty much how he is in his day-to-day life. But anyway...Pedro Pascal co-stars as an eccentric millionaire who hires Cage to make an appearance at his birthday party, with the ultimate goal of trying to get Cage to read a screenplay he's written. In the meantime, a government agency alerts Cage that this man is actually the leader of a drug cartel who has kidnapped a young girl and they need Cage to go undercover, gain his trust, and find the girl.
It's hysterical, and Cage and Pascal have amazing chemistry together. There's lots of twists and turns, and the whole thing is really just wonderful. See it ASAP.
