Letter from Attenius Firebright to Zangz
((Written in Common:))
Zangz,
I am fairly confident this will get to you, as I would not trust anyone else to put someone down so efficiently nor search a body so thoroughly. This is something of a confession, I guess, and perhaps a bit of a last will. I cannot say whether you will carry it out because I ask it of you, but I know that you understand the value of information and will make best use of it.
Before joining the Highguard, I was a citizen of Dalaran. I had a fiancee there - a human woman. I was not in the city during the purge, instead I was out running an errand for some mage there. As I returned, I ran first into a friend from the city guard, who warned me away, as all Blood Elves there had been imprisoned or killed.
Dalaran was my home. I grew up there. I survived the Orcish siege. I served in its small garrison at the time of the Burning Legion's invasion, camped in the woods nearby as I watched Archimonde turn the city to dust. I fought for the Kirin Tor against the Blue Dragonflight. My love, my home, and everything I ever owned or cared about was in that city, save my horse and my armor, and I had to leave it all behind.
I came to Silvermoon City, and as a military man, it made the most sense to fight for the Phoenix Highguard, as if I could not fight for where I had grown up, fighting for the people I had been born to was the next best thing.
A while into my service, I was approached by a Silver Covenant agent, and she offered to provide for my fiancee and perhaps get me accepted back into the city, should I keep her informed on the Highguard. I accepted, with less reluctance than I would like to admit.
I told them everything I knew of the Highguard's movements, their members, and their relationships with other groups, and I kept this up for nearly a year. As I did, the Covenant applied more and more pressure, until they were threatening my fiancee's life as well as my own. Eventually, I was asked to assassinate Commander Sha'qelas, and, as you are well aware, I failed.
I was captured the next time I was to meet with the Silver Covenant handler, then thrown into a cell and beaten for a few months. They're threatening similar punishment for my fiancee, and they're sending me out to kill Sha'qelas again.
They're watching me somehow, and for some reason they view Sha'qelas's Highguard as a threat, but one they want to deal with while expending as little effort or manpower of their own, I guess.
I'm not going to risk a confrontation with the commander, not while they're watching, not while they have her. I'm going to find you and trust that your vigilance will be enough to foil them.
The agent is a high elf - keeps her face hooded most of the time, but I've seen it. She went by "Oaks" in my presence. She's pale even for an elf, freckles, long red hair - curly. Obvious blue glow in her eyes. She's tall, nearly as tall as me. I don't know if you can expect to ever run into her, but you can expect the Silver Covenant to send some more trouble your way. If you do run into her, I hope you'll ensure her death is agonizing.
A.F.
((OOC:))
Okay, Attenius as some might have known him is dead and buried at the hand (arm-blade) of Zangz, due to me not having a good way to reintroduce him to PH after a long absence and wanting to create a new paladin character that I might actually enjoy roleplaying, now that I've had some more experience in the Highguard.
I leave it entirely up to Zangz as to whether your characters will have any knowledge of what happened, because he was the only one present.
I might run a tabletop involving the Silver Covenant after I talk with everyone a bit, and you'll be seeing a new Attenius, Attenius Sunshatter, pretty soon.
Thank you to Zangz for roleplaying with me and putting my character to rest, and thank you to all of Phoenix Highguard for inspiring me to create new characters and improve my character building.
