I love the hopefulness of The Wheel of Time. Strangers’ kindnesses take our protagonists a long way. In a tale where anyone could be a dark friend (or an Elaida) there are good people everywhere too. Master Gill is one such man. Call it the pattern weaving threads around the boys, or the need for balance but I love that even at it’s worst, the undercurrent of hopefulness in this story is ever present. A bunch of farm kids who have never known anyone bad need that belief, as do we as readers. I’m feeling real glad for Master Gill at this very moment… and Lamgwin! I think I’m more glad for them because I know how dark things get from here…but the point still stands. Good people will continue to pop up & human relationships save the day (and my dear Rand’s sanity) in the end.
