Matthew Zapruder — Making Lightning Strike: Don't Wait for the Muse

Guggenheim fellow Matthew Zapruder is author of four books of poetry, including the New York Times Notable Come On All You Ghosts. In this class, he asks: how can we write poetry amidst our busy lives and be proactive in our creative work? You will leave with solutions, and a draft of a new poem.

This class includes three full hours of instruction and concludes with a reception in Litquake’s downtown San Francisco office. Classes are limited to 15 students.

D.A. Powell—My Erotic Double: Playful Engagements with Poetry

->D.A. Powell teaches poetry in the MFA program at USF, and is the recipient of many awards and grants, including a Guggenheim. His latest book is Useless Landscape, or a Guide for Boys: Poems. For poets, he says, the encounter with language is a sensual experience; the shaping of words and ideas excites our pleasure receptors. He will focus on all kinds of "doubling" in poetry, from couplets to metaphors, and discuss ways to double the pleasure of our own poems through vision and revision.
