OPEN CALL FOR MODELS (subjects needed for figure painting)
Hello Tumblr.  My name is Aki and I am a private artist/illustrator from the Baltimore/Philadelphia areas.  Over the summer, I’d like to create a series of paintings depicting the beauty of males, trans-males, and masculine-identifying persons  on stretched fabric.  I’m in need of some willing models who don’t mind if photographs of themselves are used as reference images for these paintings.  Here are some things I’m looking for, if you are interested.  This is not a volunteer position!  I will be able to pay/compensate you and I will retain the rights to the paintings but not the photographs..
> Photographs can be pre-existing or ones you take to be painted. Â You as the model will make those decisions
> Any unclothed models MUST be 18+ but this call is open for both clothed and unclothed above the waist. Completely nude images will not be accepted. No phallic imagery will be used
> Pink or unnaturally dyed hair is preferred! If your hair is natural, that is fine too, but tell all your pink-haired friends
> Photographs must NOT contain explicit material. Â These paintings are about exploring unconventional ways of depicting masculinity, not about sexual explicitly. Â You will all get halos and pastel colors yayÂ
> Body types of all kinds are welcome, all races/ethnicities welcome
> The decision to accept a model or not is up to the artist (me) and will be based on things such as: quality of the photo(s), expression of the indiviual’s personal definition of masculinity, aesthetic value/interest, and cohesion of the figural content into the series.  Please do not get discouraged if I am unable to find a use for your refence photos!!  My decisions will never be based upon biasÂ
> You WILL be paid/compensated and payment will be of equal value to all models per photograph. Â *However, I will only pay/compensate for photographs I decide to use
> I will NOT use the photographs for any other purpose other than reference images for the paintings and the files will  NOT be shared with anyone.  A contract can be written up and signed by both parties if the model requests one. Â
> The paintings will NOT be available for public sale after their completion. Â Model will receive images of the paintings that used their reference photographs upon request Â
For more information, please send me a private message!!  If you’re not interested but know someone who might be please send them my way and please reblog to help me spread the call :D Have a fantastic day~!!Â
Sincerely, Aki @akishisen

I was recently and very gently smacked over the knuckles by a friend for something I wrote more than three years ago.   It was a sketch about rejection, that began with the object of my affection reified as a muse and ended with me imagining myself slapping her across the face I zipped up my pants in embarrassment.   From perfect being in my mind's eye, her humanity begins to bleed through into reality, paint-stripping my fantasy of mutual lust down to a seedy, colourless adolescent crush.       My defense against the accusation that male frustration instinctively, or unthinkingly, looks to violence as an expression, was that the sketch charted a figurative illustration of two extremes common to romantic objectification: the figure of muse versus that of the whore.   The TV-style all or nothing equation of a heteronormative, masculine logic we are all familiar with that unrealistically divvies up the possibilities of affection into a sharp binary: if she bows to my advances she's an angel, if she's doesn't she's a bitch!   Think of ukushela: Boy sees girl. Boy whistles, cat-calls, howls. Girl quickens her step. Girl thinks twice, three times.   If she stops and allows the conversation boy wins. She doesn't lose but he wins. If she walks away boy wins she doesn't lose. The game is rigged, it has been for a long time because her role is perpetually that of receiver, risking either affection and of insults or both.   It's a crude little anecdote that could benefit from some polish but the point is about the stakes of each predetermined gender role: both boy and girl begin in default positions with a handful of options, one a little shittier than the other.     My second defense was just that.  The space that exists between stimulus and response. Google Victor Frankel, as I did,  and you'll find this quote:   "Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."   By depicting the gulf between the extremes of muse and whore I wanted to underline that space, while using the imagined slap for shock value, to dramatise without straying to far into cliché the expected appearance of violence.   Many of these things struck me long after the writing, a fact that highlights the ineffectiveness of the language I used then. And this then is one of many revisions, reappraisals, that any writing or idea you may deem worthwhile must suffer.   The same seems true of ideas about relationships and gender and violence. They are not static things and hardly ever manifest in neat predictable patterns, not if one of one is willing to take closer, longer look.
Power Masculinity Protectiveness Agressiveness
These are things i find so attractive in men but they also make me never wanna talk to a man I find attractive in person cause they scare me at the same time.
