Hi, do you know the origins of the word "Hashashin" sorry i just saw your url and thought it wouldn't hurt to ask XD

Hello there :D I am glad you dropped by, but unfortunately I won’t be able to help you too much on this subject. Or more exactly, I have no other answer, except that which you can find on the internet. But I will enumerate some of the circulating theories, just in case.First of all, some people say that the word hashashin comes from the Arabic hashishi, meaning “hashish users”. Marco Polo and other chroniclers claimed that the followers of Sabbah committed their political murders while under the influence of drugs, hence the derogatory nickname.Though who couldn’t say the opposite, namely that the plant is called such because of its users?? Either way, I’m personally not feeling this. There also some historical and religious inconsistencies, but I’m not going there.Another explanation is by Amin Maalouf (bless wiki) which says that Hassan-i Sabbah (the founder of the assassins woot who doesn’t like that booty??) called his disciples Asasiyun, meaning people who are faithful to the Asās, meaning “foundation” of the faith.Also, if we are still at the founder part, other folks believe that the term hashashin could come from his name, as in the followers of Hassan. (back street hassan much?)And now, the last thing I read is that the word hashashin might also be linked to the Egyptian Arabic word hashasheen, meaning “noisy people” or “troublemakers”. But I can’t be sure of this, considering that I don’t know the language.Soooo, this is pretty much all I can say at the moment.
