'Mat Rempits' join PAS' Rompin campaign
MUADZAM SHAH, April 25, 2015:
PAS is turning to motorcyclists from its youth wing in a bid to canvass for votes in the Rompin by-election.
The party’s candidate Nazri Ahmad said the involvement of between 10-20 members in its machinery was meant to expose the youth to a more Islamic form of motorcycling.
The riders are also part of the party’s Alternative Riding Club, set up in 2004.
Nazri revealed many Felda youths were “Mat Rempits”, a term used to describe motorcyclists who were often seen as a nuisance to society.
“The ARC is giving Felda youth an opportunity to conduct more beneficial activities,” he told The Rakyat Post.
Nazri, who is also Pahang PAS Youth chief, revealed that the motorcyclists would ride in a convoy and follow him during his campaign trails.
This, he added, would also give them the experience of taking part in a political campaign.
Meanwhile, ARC director Mohd Shamsuri Hussein, 36, said the initiative was to ensure that “Mat Rempits” would not feel left out.
“Our aim is to attract more members. We also aim to preach to the youth.”

I spent the year in Port Dickson. For those of you who don't know, it's a little town in Seremban famous for its dirty beaches.
I don't really know why we picked PD.
I've been there a couple of times - one to many perhaps.
The roads are small, the shops are crap and there really isn't anything to do except go on water rides in the brown murky waters and go along dangerous one-lane roads with a scenic view of a dozen wanna-be resorts.
Oh there's a pasar malam as well if your looking to increase your collection of cheap imitation goods.
Yet there's a charm to PD that's undeniable.
For the lazy KL-Lite, it's one of the nearest vacation spots you can drive too as well, so I guess that could be it.
Little did we know that it was also the Annual Mat Rempit Convention for the year (ideal!) So we were joined by thousands of scrawny bikers who provided us with an ample supply of noise pollution and smoke.
Thank you Rempits. Without you guys - our New Year would have been spent in the quiet confines of our resort with our friends and family as we enjoyed the murky waves and sunset from our sea-view apartment.
The police were in full force as well with road-blocks in every corner. I'm pretty sure this was to ensure that the rempit entourage were welcomed warmly. Good job guys.
