Autumn glow in Alaska.

Took a trip to the Matanuska Glacier this past weekend. This 27 mile long glacier winds it’s way back into the Chugach range, and terminates here in this magnificent wall of ice.

The daily (summer) northbound Denali Star bound for Fairbanks leans into the 55 mph curve at Matanuska Junction as the early fall colors begin to show themselves. The two HEP-equipped SD70MACs are leading the train consisting of ARR equipment followed by various cruise company charter equipment on the rear of the train. These two engines were part of the 2004 order for additional SD70MACs which were tacked onto an existing order for CSX engines. September, 2010
