相撲界にとって不幸なことに、相撲の八百長体質を改革しようとしていた貴乃花親方・・・この人は「ガチンコ力士」と言って、決して八百長をしなかったのだが、弟子が不祥事を起こし、相撲界から去っていた。相撲界の暗黙の了解として、「ガチンコ力士」を名乗らない力士は、八百長をすることが前提となる。

現在の相撲協会理事長の八角親方の兄弟子の「名横綱」千代の富士は、八百長をやっていて、ファンに「八百長野郎！」と罵倒されても言いかえせなかった。八角も同様だろう。八百長が当たり前の相撲、楽しんでいる外国人には言いにくいが「こんな競技、まじめに見ると、損するよ。」

PS最近、弟子が暴力事件を起こしたことを隠し、宮城野親方（白鵬）が２階級降格された。あり得ることだ。
