With the river flooded we headed to Thorney Lakes for the Stoke Pairs Open. I had a lovely day catching four nice bream, a skimmer and some roach for 15lb 6oz which was the top weight on the day. My partner, Terry ‘The Toast’ was third in his section with 4lb 8oz and we won it! An impromptu charity match at Harry’s today saw me draw the infamous peg 4 for only the second time ever. I didn’t really do it justice but still had a lovely days fishing to weigh 95lb 8oz for third spot behind Chris Norton who did brilliantly from peg 6 to win with 124lb. Another tidy sum was raised for charity too. We were back at Avalon Fisheries on Sunday for a Stoke AA match and I got off to a great start with a 10lb ghostie and a 3lb bream but limped home with 21lb 9oz for nowhere. Fished the Stoke AA match on the canal lake at The Sedges on Sunday. It looked nice but I’ve struggled for four carp, two eels, a lovely crucian plus a few bits and bobs for 12lb 5oz and nowhere. Andy Saunders won with an excellent 54lb 15oz from peg 64. With nothing on Sunday I arranged a match at the lovely Covey Fisheries. I got drawn peg 8 and tried to fish for silvers but it was solid with F1’s of all sizes, I did manage to catch a nice barbel, some roach, rudd, little skimmers and a chublet for 5lb 14oz and second in the silvers by default. I’ve literally had a bite a chuck all day to weigh 50lb 8oz but was miles off Allan Orams winning weight of 92lb.
