To my tin ear, down here on the other side of the world, all Welsh sounds like Welsh. But I'm guessing there are a lot of local variations in accent, vocabulary and such. How Pembrokeshire is the Tretarw version of Welsh? Are Gareth and Gwydion from the area, and if not, how did they find adopting the local way of speaking?

Gwydion: I believe the general consensus on the accent of Tretarw was a West Walian accent. More so a Pembrokeshire accent. I’m originally from the country itself - funnily enough coming back to do the accent was harder than expected, but I tended to be the go to man on set when cast members had queries regarding the accent and sayings. Gareth on the other hand, has a North Walian accent, so I didn’t have a clue what he was saying during our scenes!Gareth: It’s true - I lucked out. When I heard where the series was set I was a little worried I was going to have to dust off my West Wales accent, but happily, Brian turned out to be the only Gog (slang for North Walian taken from ‘Gogledd’ meaning, simply, ‘North’) in the village - so I was off the hook.

Dau Beint is a fantastic bit of bonus fun. There are a lot of terrific relationships in Cara Fi — why do you think it's Brian and Dai that the creators instinctively knew we'd want to see more of? What makes their relationship special?

Gareth: The Welsh acting community is relatively small, but as it so happened Gwydion & I didn’t really know each other before starting work, so that ‘chemistry’ kind of crept up on us. We fell quite easily into a double act as they each have qualities the other lacks - Dai’s socially at ease (especially with women), where Brian isn’t - but Dai wishes he had a little more of Brian’s knack for trivia. It also helped that the chicken scene was one of our very first scenes together. You find out who you can rely on when you’re thrown into a war.Gwydion: Yes, as Gareth says, we clicked without trying really. First couple of scenes together we tested the waters with a bit of improv, and we both were instantly on the same wavelength, and our sense of humour complimented each other. We corpsed at the same things, and we used all those little things as a springboard to flesh out some of the subplots of the characters.
