Material Experimentation! With masking fluid and silicone. Exploring texture, opacity and elasticity. The chemicals make them smell atrocious, but the masking fluid definitely produced the closest skin-like appearance, and I’d like to see what else I could do with it. I was hoping to imprint my own skin and finger prints into the materials but they were either too runny or sticky to make a lasting impression.

Just had a materials workshop with Mark which was very insightful for how I can go about interrogating materials. The best advice was to ask questions following on from an exercise inspired by John Cage. I took a material (see post above) and wrote a long train of thought based around that item. It helps you overcome your initial assumptions about the material, breaking it down to its properties that can be further explored through play. I think this would be a useful tool to see how I can interrogate and hijak masking fluid/ silicone potential further!
