Studyblr Intro

Hello, there! I have been a long-time lurker in the studyblr community, and I decided that It's about time I joined in on the fun! This is a sideblog that I am revamping to use for study-related content. I am currently taking a few summer classes at my community college, and I'd like to use this blog to keep myself motivated.

About me:

Undergraduate first year (I started in spring)

Currently 20, but will be turning 21 in August

I live in New England (America)

Currently pursuing a Liberal Arts Degree with a Math Focus

I am hoping to go into a math-related career. At the moment, forensic accounting interests me, but I am definitely open to other things.

Interests and Hobbies:

Video Games (Stardew Valley, BOTW & TOTK, and Minecraft, mostly)

I'd like to get into reading, but that has been slow going

Goals:

Stay on top of my classwork

Get above an 80% in all of my classes

Be able to spend more time on my interests and hobbies

Make some friends, hopefully

What to expect:

I'd love to give a tangible list of what to expect, but this is also the first blog that I will be making (hopefully consistent) personal posts to ever. It'll be as much a surprise to you as to me. You can probably expect a lot of reblogs, some to do lists, photos, and maybe some hobby-related posts.

07.17.23 - I get that I keep complaining about my classes, but this one is coming from the fact that I'm going to be tutoring in the fall rather than straight up complaining.

I am doing a math-focused major. Half the reason for this is that I understand math, and I like doing it. However, some of the math classes I've taken so far at this college have lost me completely on a few intro-level concepts. And since I'm doing a lot to understand these things, I know where things are breaking down. Like, I have almost a whole essay/slideshow brewing in my head about the problems with the way things are taught in these classes, and WHY they're not working.

However, teaching is just half of what tutoring is. The other half is the students I'll be teaching. On that note, I really think that students need to compromise a little bit. I understand that not understanding something can be discouraging, but there's a difference between not understanding and not wanting to understand. Since this is college, I am going to be dealing with people who have already made up their minds about math, which is sad. I think half of the issues I encounter will be mindset-based, rather than issues with the actual material. Bleh.

My algebra class. Is starting to get. On my nerves. Little bit of a vent incoming.

I tried to pre-plan my week. Because I know exactly what I need to get done in a given week. And I like to batch my Algebra notes together, so I can knock them all out at once. It worked wonderfully this week, because I got everything done before class on Monday, where she decided to not follow the pacing guide she provided. Again. I then batched all of the homework I had for the class together. I have five(?) normal homework assignments, a quiz, and an exam. Seven total.

Well, it turns out that the professor doesn’t open the assignments until we cover the material in class. Under normal circumstances, this would be fine. However! I take the notes before class because the professor likes to blow through things as fast as humanly possible. She usually loses half the class when covering new material, INCLUDING me sometimes. Having all of the material already in my head means that she can’t lose me. Also, I try to do all of the notes before my Monday class, because she uses the pacing guide as a suggestion *at best*. We are so messed up compared to the guide that she’s either going to squeeze even more material into the limited time we have, or we aren’t going to finish everything. Its not cool. Now, since half of the assignments aren’t released until after class on Wednesday, I can’t really get any of those ones done until Thursday. Because I have work after class. And it is a lot easier for me to just sit down and work through one thing until I am done, be it notes or homework. Having to change things up so often is messing up my flow.

*sigh* I guess I just thought that I’d have my system figured out before the halfway point of the term. I’m getting a little tired of having to pivot.

My goal is to get all of my homework done before Friday. I don't have any in-person classes, so it should be no sweat.

07/10/23 - So, this week I have in person classes again.

I could technically call last week a break, since I didn't have any in-person classes, but I had the same amount of work to do. And, I still had work. So.

Anyways, another new week! I checked my classes, and I have about double the work that I did last week for Algebra. We switched up the pacing guide, so everything is a little wonky. I have to cover... *checks notes* six different sections for this week. Four from one chapter, and two from another. However, I came to campus early and finished the notes for the first chapter, which was what I wanted to finish for the day!

My in-person class starts in about 15 minutes, and I have an hour after it ends until I have to go to work. I don't know if I want to take that time to relax, or to get ahead on other stuff. Much to think about!
