Mugshot Monday - “Math Mug“ by The Unemployed Philosopher’s Guild with Morning Glory Blend by Peace Coffee
I used to like math back in the day. And I was good at it.
I took a 300 level math class in college as a sophomore -- I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up (still don’t!😂), so I was exploring the degree paths where high-level math might be required.
We started learning about *IMAGINARY NUMBERS* half way through the semester. I was like, NOPE SHUT IT DOWN.
I concluded that math people smarter than me had run out of math things to teach so they invented imaginary numbers.
What kind of MATH CULT are you trying to force me to join?
That was the last math class I ever took. I soon after found my true calling and careened toward a Journalism Communications major that was much more fulfilling.
Btw: My 16YO tells me he learned about imaginary numbers last year in high school! He’s equally unimpressed, yet still determined to learn more math. That’s good.
I bought this mug at the the Goodwill in Beaver Bay, MN driving back from camping on the North Shore with the family. It reminded me of that 300 level math class and it made me smile. Cheers!
