YA HEAR ...wait...YA READ THAT, JUSTINE?!?....Band was better with her in it, I’m just sayin’ it, dude. Nevertheless, this is totally rad and wish they played more songs (haha). LOVE this band’s stuff!

Evening, CLT Scene & Beyond! In the pursuit of working toward getting better, we had to take a day off of the usual line-up listings, but we hope that you've found yourself anyhow enjoying all that Charlotte's had to offer in the scene. Always remember to take care of yourself when the time comes, and that your mental health matters 🎶💖 ~~~~~~~~~~ Speaking of this, one of the many ways our scene in particular is beautiful stands by the fact that there's many out here that you can vibe with when the chips are scattered, and The Milestone Club is an awesome gathering place in our scene. We were there last night for @maththebandtheband , @dollarsignstheband , @theemotron , and the reunion of @michaelcerapalin , so check out a couple scenes from THE scene, and have an awesome Tuesday night! GOOD SOUNDS:
24. MATH THE BAND
Based out of Providence, Rhode Island, USA is one of the quirkiest, zaniest, and outrageously-eclectic punk rock bands by the name of MATH THE BAND!
Initially started as a solo effort by Kevin Steinhauser (after no such luck while being in other bands) back around 2001, Math The Band has certainly developed quite the following. In 2007, Justine Mainville officially joined the band which would then propel the unstoppable duo to new heights with multiple albums being released (as well as a TON of TRULY RADICAL music videos that you can find online).
The band’s sound is very high energy, driven heavily by vintage analog synthesizers (some home-made), keyboards, drum machines, hacked 8bit video game systems, and electric guitars. Kevin’s abstractly expressive lyrical content is a smorgasbord of creativity while being superbly supported by Justine’s excellent back-up vocal, keyboards, synth, and percussion work.
Although the band was a dynamic duo for some time, they currently have a “full” line-up, which now features permanent members for an even more complete (and raw) live sound. After the addition of more members in the band (and a new handle; “Math The Band The Band”) their live experience currently has a much more defined punk rock flair to their sound (which can be heard on their Totally Excellent latest effort “Math The Band The Band” - SO AWESOME).
Although Kevin & Justine are married (having been a couple since around ’06), it is not necessarily a major focus (or particularly relevant) when in terms of the music the band creates. There is a significantly genuine level of enthusiasm when it comes to the band’s live shows that exudes primarily from Kevin & Justine - with their passionately fun-loving energy. Considering the band had extremely humble beginnings (with the band being named after a pin on Steinhauser’s backpack that simply said “Math” on it with numbers all over; yes the band was named after a button) - there has been a tremendous amount of radical creativity & TOTAL AWESOMENESS that has been pouring through the flood gates of this band’s repertoire (that appears to have no end).
Prior to the full band line-up, Math The Band’s hypnotically-electronic (and adrenaline-inducing) sounds had been referred to as “NintendoCore” for obvious reasons. Such an unorthodox band has along with it quite an unorthodox story due to the nature of starting off as a solo project and then becoming something much, much more. Steinhauser’s efforts show how you can make impossible music possible (which is a rare accomplishment for any artists & musicians - especially the independent ones).
When you look up the word RAD in the dictionary you will find MATH THE BAND!
Happy Listening!
New Math the Band song and video are great. Best band I’ve ever seen live.
