Actually, Genesect isn't shiny locked if you have the Japanese shiny event Genesect. I've learned that if you try to generate a shiny Genesect or take a regular Genesect and make it shiny, it won't work. If you want a legit shiny Genesect for your giveaways, I can give you one. (It's not GTS though. Just tradable via regular trade)

It would be nice if the item server wasn't down though. Are you having issues as well or is it just my bad luck?

the item servers tend to go completely to pot after big updates like this one. it’s probably a game-wide thing, give it a couple of hours and things should all be hunky dory again.
