As small as it is, I'm glad we get a little moment in the aftermath of Elisa and Matt. It's a good moment. Poor Matt though, mostly there to be rescued. Haha.

And she's just so proud of Broadway.

And Broadway's SO PROUD OF HIMSELF I LOVE IT!!! He Deserves to be! He did amazing!!

I wonder what the clan is thinking about his two day absence where they can't even check in with Elisa to ask if she knows where he's been. They are Freaking Out.

Which leads nicely to the other thing I've been noticing for some time. This episode, of the main cast, is literally just Elisa and Broadway, and I LOVE that the show is willing to just do that. Make space for them like that. UGH. LOVE their friendship! Love that they get an episode for it. A++ This one was another really fun one!!

LOVE this! He feels so bad about this whole situation. It's that he got Elisa wrapped up in it, that his desire for it to lead to his pet mission blinded him to the ways things didn't fit, but most of all because he didn't bring his 'best partner' in. This wasn't part of their job. It wasn't a part of their case. If they weren't close, there would be no need to apologize for anything other than her getting wrapped up in this. And I mean, that is part of it. Because of course if he went missing, she would look into it and be all the less equipped because she didn't know anything. But that's always possible. It's something about this Not being Illuminati in particular that galls him about not including her, like that is the only thing he has a right to keep to himself. And I think that's largely because he knows she doesn't even believe in that stuff. But the way he says all this feels like there's a possibility he would feel, in the future, like including her in on even that stuff.

This apology from him to his partner while Elisa has one of her own. She looks so guilty as she dismisses the apology in a way that she says she knows what it's like to want to do the job alone. Not only is that the case with the gargoyle, which I think is the big thing here, but it's also the case about this situation. She almost did this alone and probably would have died, but she DID have a partner this time. Except now, that partner can't have her back. Ugh. Delicious tension

You know, really, only Glasses probably encountered the gargoyles earlier, so it makes sense they just think they saw Elisa with 'a big guy.' Glasses just seems to want to get shit over with and not worry about anything they don't need to. And of course Elisa DOES have it on her, and I think Matt knew perfectly well that she'd want to keep it with her. But the others didn't know that, and it was his way to get Elisa out. And the check in! He's been tied up for probably at least a day? Maybe more at this point. Probably hasn't had much to eat or drink, but it's him checking in with Elisa. She doesn't even check back with him. He feels like it's his fault she's there. She knows he's probably not doing too great and there's nothing she can do right now. Her reply being a bit snarky is the best sign really Matt has that she didn't get seriously injured down there. No hidden wounds here. Ugh it's great

I have to assume they could hear her talking from in there? To some extent. Otherwise, why would any of them believe Elisa survived that. She absolutely would not have without Broadway lol. Still, love the way Matt is going about getting his partner to safety. Freed from rubble and in their hands is probably better than trapped, and that's just a gamble he has to make. And who knows, if he had had more time, if he'd have assumed she'd be bringing in backup or if it might have been better to leave her. He needs to know now that she's okay. Ugh. Love it!

And of course they were expecting her. I don't think they needed the clue to the room because they've been at this location it led Elisa too for days. And poor Matt is just left tied up waiting on them finding what they want or not.

And ugh! The concern on Matt's face. He didn't actually see it happen, but he heard a hell of a thing. And he has no particular reason to think they'd lie to him. They have the upper hand in all regards, and if they were looking to get information out of him, they would have been much better served trying to capture Elisa than kill her. He now thinks he's led his 'best partner' to her death. Amazing!

I don't really have much to say here, but it's an important moment because it allows us to move the plot forward. It gives us our next step in the story. It does tell us that whatever hunt Matt went on, it was well founded and not a fool's errand. Or at least seemingly so, whether or not this Mace guy is indeed connected to the Illuminati, he really found a note from him.

And we immediately get a clue as to why he's so alone. I don't suspect family would just like, cut him out of their lives for being a badger about a conspiracy theory, which still suggests to me that he doesn't have much family. But he absolutely could put people off from wanting to get close to him with such a fixation that he has no problem at least bringing up pretty casually. If one doesn't have much family and puts that kind of energy into his job because he thinks his job is a way to do his research, it would absolutely be alienating to get booted leaving him fairly without connections. And it's one thing to challenge others to accept him with immediately making them aware of his obsession and another to admit to people the way it's wrecked havoc on his life.
