As a music supervisor across the alt comedy TV spectrum, an on-air personality on the small screen as well, craft chicken sandwich maker, and a music producer, dude’s got an eye and ear for a certain audience in the culture, and evidently, timing out how to drop a toxic relationship with a flex on this capitalist-driven day for coupledom known as Valentine’s Day.

Getting an early favor paid forward with a release under the House of Feelings umbrella, his latest single “I Tried” bleeds with a slick electronic dance house energy featuring singer Alisa Nappa that goes in on an emotional vampire who just isn’t worth the time anymore. ”Have you ever been so lonely? / Well, maybe you should give it a go / ‘Cause baby you can’t fool me / And I can’t, no I can’t do this anymore.” This is to say that if you’re single, be glad that you’re not stuck going nowhere with someone when euphoria is literally right here.

Matt FX Takes a Hypnotic Trip to the Dancefloor With New Double Release

Matt FX is dropping a pair of neon, electro singles with his crisp new tracks “A Love Beginning” and “Pero No Te Quiero.” The Brooklyn DJ sensation has collaborated with vocalist Melika, bringing us a range of sleek synths, throbbing bass lines, and infectious melodies. Matt FX shares, “The music is inspired by these little moments of hope, pain, and wonder that you go through in specific circumstances. In a funny way, I feel like both songs sort of apply to this idea of seeing someone special across a room and immediately having all these thoughts race through your head.”

“A Love Beginning” oozes allure and seriously fire melodies, drawing on a funky and energetic aura, the quirk and sleekness of this track makes it totally unique. Cool as a cucumber, “A Love Beginning” has a pipe melody giving off a tropical warmth, while the hypnotic beat emits a light feel, helping to lift your spirits up from wherever you are.

Reminiscent of Disclosure and the fat pulsing synths of Sonny Fodera, this is a trance-like tune for bopping away in the club, bar, or even the kitchen. “Pero No Te Quiero” talks of a toxic and passionate relationship, wrapped up in a ‘90s wash ready to get your heart pumping. Matt FX Emulates Mexican Cowboys on Debut Single “Vaquero”

The debut single from Matt FX was born in lockdown. It comes after years of other gigs around the industry, including as a DJ, producer, music supervisor (Broad City), and TV host (In The Mix with Matt FX). Now the New York-based artist has embarked on an exciting solo music career, starting with “Vaquero,” which was inspired by a trip to Mexico where he spent time with some local cowboys. Their quiet fortitude gives Matt FX strength.

Nature murmurs across “Vaquero,” bringing it to life. What draws you to these kinds of organic sounds?

MFX: I wanted the setting of the track to be unmistakable. Regardless of whether you want to take it as a metaphor, or take it literally, this is a piece of music about traversing the wilderness, and going thru the unknown.

You live in New York, one of the busiest cities in the world. How do you emulate the vaqueros you met in your day-to-day life, if at all?  

MFX: I think one thing I’ve taken from them was the idea that your horse can feel your emotions almost better than you can, and for that reason it is important to remain calm and confident. I can’t always say that I do, but I try.
