At 5am on May 16th, Chris and I nervously and very excitedly (and maybe a tad sleepily) "checked- in" to the labor and delivery floor. I got my IV started and worked my way through a hefty stack of consent forms, insurance info sheets, vaccination paperwork and peed in my cup. I met my nurses ( who all know my husband from his time on OB), nurse anesthetist and saw my OB before heading to the operating room. The closer I got to it the more nervous I was over the effects the spinal might have. They wheeled me (already swelling from the fluids) over to the exam room while Dad suited up and got me moved to the operating table. In comes the nurse anesthetist and his student. They check my vitals constantly and administer all the appropriate drugs. I, apparently being a VIP, was heavily dosed( after hitting my nerves a few times). The drugs hit me like a truck! I was told it would be hard to tell if I was breathing but I would still be able to and not to panic. It's hard to not panic when you can't feel anything from the tops of your shoulders down tho. I struggled to breathe evenly, my BP went up some and then the nausea came on. I could barely talk or open my eyes without feeling like I would spew. After some anti nausea meds kicked in I was fine tho. The doc made her incisions (a fairly small one) and they all got to work pulling out the baby. I've seen the video( yes, we got it recorded) and I can tell you she should have made a bigger hole. Doc is pulling with all she's got while the tech is pushing him out from the other end. I now know why I am so freaking sore! Out he comes. Finally!!! He has a head full of dark reddish brown hair, chubby cheeks, rolls on his legs and arms and my nose. He was born at 7:34am and was 8lbs 13.6 oz and 20.5 inches long. Part 2: Archer's Struggle. Stay tuned.
