O Canada - Cheryl/Matthew

Cheryl was on her first business trip, and also her first time in Canada.  She thought to herself, as she perched atop a barstool in the hotel bar, that she’d have to visit more often.  Canada had been very welcoming so far.

“My first time in this country,” she remarked to the blond man on the barstool next to her, apropos of nothing.  “I’m here from New York on a business trip.  You here on a trip too?”

“Look, you’re bleeding through your shirt.  You are not fine.  Visibly.”  She’d started out calm but his blunt insistence that he was fine was starting to bother her.  Honestly...not that she could really point fingers, she was the same way.  Maybe that was why it was annoying her so much.  She went for a different tack, since his own safety didn’t seem to be a concern.

“And you’re getting blood on the ground too, aren’t you at least a little ashamed about that?  You’re making a mess for someone to clean up, whenever you do get home you’re probably going to have someone worried about you...just let me help now, alright?  I’m already here, already involved myself, and if I walk away now I’m just going to spend the rest of the day worrying about you, and since I don’t really know you or how to contact you it’ll weigh on me for weeks.”

As if by instinct, Leon kneels down and takes hold of Matthew, concern riddled upon his face. 

“M-Matthew?!” He seemed to not care about any blood that managed to stain his clothing, and he immediately attempts to rip a piece of Matthew’s shirt to use as a tie to help apply pressure to the wound. His heart was racing as he panicked; his medical skills weren’t exactly the best. 

“W-What even happened?! You’re an absolute mess!”

“Today’s your birthday, right?” She approaches him with a bottle of šljivovica in hand, topped with a neat, little bow wrapped around the neck of the bottle. “For you. Be careful not to drink too much, too quickly. It’s a traditional drink of mine with a high alcohol content.”

“Well you’d think after gettin’ a petrol bomb dropped right in front of ‘em, and that we’d called their bluff in an instant, they’d learn some sort of lesson and stop sendin’ their crew after us, yeah?” 

“But of course they didn’t-- and of course we knew they wouldn’t, so, we decided, that lower loading stage I used to have, it was basically askin’ someone to come by and leap onto, isn’t it-- so we decided to cut it right off!”

“You’d be surprised. Maybe it’s becoming some kind of trend all the cool kids are doing,” Jan snorts, shaking his head, "Who knows?”

Jan is not surprised with the Canadian’s strength. Not everyone can hoist the heavy Dutchman to reach the branch and pull himself up but not everyone is Matthew. 

The first is a woman who is sure she  belongs int hat tree, insisting that is her home and the Dutchman has to sweet talk her into coming down, which, thankfully works, this time anyway.

“Hey Matthew, I’ve secured one. She’s a...clinging to me hard. I’m..gonna lower her anyway be ready to wretch her from my person.”

“If you’re looking for the ruins to visit them, they’re further up north. Gas station is at the edge of the village. And don’t ask about vampires.” Decaeneus didn’t bother to look up, instead opting to continue tending to his horse, brushing he mane gently. He didn’t know who he talking to, though. All he knew was that the nearby presence was an unfamiliar one, and decided it must have been a tourist, either lost or stopping by for supplies.
