you sigh, shutting the magazine that you’re reading, or pretending to read. michael is sitting on the couch opposite you, with his glasses perched on his nose and a book in his hands.
“michael.” you call.
he doesn’t respond, doesn’t even move a muscle, he just continues reading like you’re not right infront of him.
“c’mon mikey this is stupid. you’re upset over a petty debate over orange juice… really?” you scoff at your own words because it sounds hard to believe.
you and him ended up having a debate about which juice is better. orange or apple juice. and you were adamant that apple juice is ten times better than orange juice and he got extremely defensive.
he clears his throat, turning the page of his book. still refusing to acknowledge your presence.
“y’know you’re childish as fuck right.” you say, rolling your eyes at his ridiculous behaviour.
after being ignored for the third time, you stand up and walk to the couch he’s sitting on.
you snatch his book out of his hands, setting it on the coffee table and plop yourself down on his lap.
surprisingly he lets you do all of these things, biting his lip in annoyance and turning his head to the side so he doesn’t have to make eye contact with you.
“michael joseph jackson.” you cup his cheeks, forcing his face in your direction. “m’sorry if you got offended over your precious orange juice that you seem to love more than me but this is immature.”
he stays silent, looking into your eyes with a raised brow.
oh wow, so he’s still being stubborn. you’re literally sitting on his lap, and he’s still ignoring you.
over fucking orange juice?
“michael!” you exclaim, dropping your hands to his shoulders and giving them a light shake.
you drop a kiss on his cheek, then the other cheek before planting many, many pecks on his lips.
he doesn’t kiss you back, deciding to close his eyes so he doesn’t have to look at you.
“ughhh,” you groan, “talk to me.” you pout, grabbing his cheeks so you can kiss him a few more times.
“you’re…” kiss “being…” kiss “so…” kiss “stubborn!”
michael let’s out a loud sigh, when you start to pepper kisses along his jaw. at this point you’re surprised he hasn’t tried to push you off yet. this is just giving you the impression that he secretly likes you being all clingy with him.
“im going to sleep in the guest room if you continue to ignore me. and then all you’ve have in life is your stupid orange juice.” you mumble, in between your kisses before you drop your head down to his neck.
you start kissing the smooth skin of his throat, opening your mouth wider so you can lick and suck the subtle skin into your mouth.
you hear a low groan rumble out of michael’s mouth, making a small grin form on your lips.
he’s cracking!
you continue your now mission, nibbling the sensitive skin of his throat, soothing the bites with your tongue.
you feel a large hand, settle on the dip of your waist, pulling you even more forward on his lap where you can feel the thick, unmistakable bulge of his growing erection.
got him!
“so now you want to touch me?” you question, raising your head with a grin.
he looks at you with narrowed eyes, his hand tightening its grip on your waist.
“you’re not being fair.” he speaks up, his lips forming a scowl.
“and now you want to speak?” you say in disbelief.
you grin, kissing him deeply before moving away and laughing when he tries to chase your lips.
“nuh uh. nope.” you shake your head, hopping off of his lap and swatting away his hands that try and pull you back.
“mama come back.” michael whines, unable to hide the massive tent in his sweatpants.
you shrug, leaving the living room knowing that he’ll most probably follow you. “if you need something that badly then ask your orange juice since that was worth ignoring your girlfriend over.”
you squeal running towards the bedroom when he stands up, chasing after you.

“How’s your leg?”
Michael looked up at the sound of your voice.
“Oh! Hello, beautiful!” His face beamed at the sight of you.
You gathered the voluminous white skirt as you slipped between the window and his armchair. Cupping his chin, you placed a firm kiss on his cheek.
You shifted your eyes to his cast.
“It hurts a little. Just can’t move much, y’know. I’ve been looking out the window all day.”
“Do you want me to bring you something books, magazines… anything?”
“No, darling. You’re here now. I’ve got entertainment.” He gave you a knowing smile.
“Is that so? Well, would you like to be entertained with a sandwich? I’m sure you haven’t eaten anything all day?”
Michael looked sheepish.
“I’ll be right back.” A moment later, the smell of toasted bread drifted into the room and you reappeared with two sandwiches and a glass of orange juice.
“Please eat.” Your thumb brushed his jaw. “Don’t make me worry about you.”
Michael’s eyes lingered on yours. “Thank you, darling.”
You settled into the sofa opposite him, spreading your dress around you carefully, as he started nibbling on the sandwich.
“This is torture!” He groaned.
“I know, Michael, I know. One more week and you’ll be up and dancing again like it never happened.”
“There has to be some way to speed this up.”
“That’s not how healing works, Michael.” You laughed.
“Well, I say it should. There’s no point in it being broken for so long.”
“Patience is virtue, you know.” You crossed to him and caressed his hair gently. He relaxed into your touch.
“How have you been?” Michael offered you a bite.
You took it between your teeth.
“They had me modelling this new collection. Gorgeous new dresses.”
“Do a spin for me, angel.”
You did a little twirl.
“Breathtaking!” Michael admired your neckline accentuated by the black bodice.
The fabric rustled softly as you spread your skirt around you.
“They let me keep this one. It hugs my figure so well.”
“I think it’s all you, doll. Anything looks flattering on you.” Michael took another sip of orange juice, eyes never leaving you.
“Come here.” He gestured to his sound leg.
You settled carefully in his lap, making sure you’re not touching the cast.
“Hello, you.” He whispered softly.
You wrapped your arms around his neck to steady yourself and placed a soft kiss on his cheek, then at the corner of his lips.
He closed his eyes with a contented hum.
“Mmmm,” he muttered “keep going.”
You continued peppering kisses over his chin, his nose, while his hand gently cradled the back of your head.
“Did you miss me?”
“Yes…” he replied absentmindedly.
Over his shoulder, on the desk, lay a magazine with your face on the cover.
“Did you think of me a lot?” you smirked and ghosted your lips over his.
“Mm-hm” he replied automatically, his eyes glued to your lips.
“What were you thinking about...?” You kept giving him small kisses and brushed your face against cheek, while your hand travelled to his chest.
“Mmm…”
“Pay attention to me, Michael.” You pleaded gently, planting another kiss.
“Well, I’m not exactly on the other side of the room.” He tightened his grip on your waist.
A smile spread across both of your faces and you tucked your face in the nape of his neck.
“Will you stay?” Michael caressed your thigh gently.
Only then did you lean back enough to meet his eyes.
“No, not tonight, Michael.”
He looked at you with pleading eyes.
“I’m sorry. I really wish I could. I’ve got an early shoot tomorrow and you need rest.” Your hand brushed away a strand of hair from his face.
“Bill could take you in the morning.”
“Michael,” your tone was firmer, “if I stay we both know there won’t be any sleeping.”
“Can’t argue with that.” He swept your hair back and pressed a kiss to your neck.
“I’ll make up for it.” You stood up and held his face in your hands, searching his eyes. “I promise.”
Michael held you firmly by the waist, reluctant to let go.
“I’ll hold you to it.”
…
“I’ve been waiting for you, angel.”
The light switch clicked and the room was awash with light.
“You’ve done something different with your hair.”
You made your way over to him and gave him a kiss on the lips.
“Sorry I’m late. They had me do a reshoot for a piece, then they dragged me to the wrap party. I couldn’t wait to get away.”
“They’re overworking my girl. I know she’s the prettiest, but can’t they find somebody else?” Michael said in a playful tone.
“I need you too, you know.” His voice softened.
“I’m here now, Michael.”
You lowered the blinds.
“You’re being very needy.”
“Can you blame me?”
“I got your favorite.” You raised a bag and took chicken, fries and orange juice out of it, placing them on the table.
“I could kiss you right now.” Michael nearly jumped from his seat and winced.
“Steady, baby. We’ve got all night for that. Dinner first!”
Michael’s eyes widened in surprise.
“I’m staying the night.” You ignored his look, bit off a fry and placed another piece of chicken on his plate.
“You’re gonna have to be careful around my leg.” Michael cleared his throat.
You fixed your stare on him.
“You know… not to hit me accidentally.” He hurried to explain himself. “You turn a lot in your sleep.” He made a little circular motion with his hand.
“Don’t worry.” Your face relaxed into a smile. “I’ll be extra careful tonight.”
After both of you finished eating and you were clearing the table, he reached for you.
“Come here, angel.”
“Michael! You’re gonna ruin my dress.”
“Is this another one from the collection?”
“No, this one’s mine.”
Michael let his hand drift from the black mesh on your shoulders, trailing down the curve of your side before resting at your waist.
“Are you gonna wear it to bed? You look stunnin’ in it.”
“Of course not!” you slipped from his grasp.
Michael watched your graceful figure leave through the door.
He shifted in his seat and leaned back into the armchair.
For the past few weeks, your arrival had become an event in his life. Every evening he’d eagerly await your silhouette in the doorway. Sometimes he’d glimpse you through the window when you made your way over the driveway. Other evenings he’d be asleep, exhausted from waiting.
A few moments later, you came back in a pearlescent white silk nightgown with a translucent robe trailing behind your legs.
“And what have I done to deserve such a blessing?”
“You don’t need to do anything. You just need to be.”
You perched on the armrest, resting your temple against his.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart.”
You furrowed your brows at him.
“That you’re stuck with me. I can’t even go anywhere. I’m sure you’d much rather be at the party with your girlfriends.” He gently traced circles on your wrist.
“Michael,” you looked at him earnestly. “There’s nowhere I’d rather be.”
He glanced at you.
“Heh…” He ducked his head with a shy smile. “You’d really choose an old man with a broken leg who cannot even get up to greet you.”
“Yes.” You touched his nose with yours. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Michael’s concern melted into a relaxed smile.
You chuckled.
“Well, except for the broken leg.” You smoothed the sleeve of his red shirt.
He lifted your hand and kissed your knuckles.
“My beautiful girl.”
“Once this is off,” he tapped the cast, “I promise, I’m taking you out.”
“I love you.”
Michael held your gaze.
“I love you more.”
You slid off his lap and held out your hand.
“Let’s get you to bed.”
…
Soft moonlight illuminated his face. Michael looked like the picture of peace. His features were relaxed, his chest slowly rising and falling with each breath. One hand still held the book loosely.
You placed a soft kiss on his lips. Shifting in his seat, he opened his eyes lazily.
Your face hovered over his.
“Are you an angel?”
“You’ve fallen asleep with your glasses on.” You chuckled at him.
The glasses made his eyes seem even larger than usual, making him look even more adorable. You’d encouraged him to wear them because otherwise he couldn’t read, but he was always shy about putting them on.
He frowned sleepily and hurried to take them off.
“I like them.”
“I’ve missed you.” He took your hand in his. “I really have.”
“Michael, I left only this morning.”
“And? Can’t I miss my girl?”
A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“What’s the occasion?”
His gaze drifted over your outfit.
You were wearing a black sleeveless high-neck dress that left your shoulders bare.
“Seeing you.”
“Mmm…” he murmured.
“What? A girl can’t dress up to see her man?” You raised an eyebrow.
“I could get used to this.”
He reached up and pressed a quick kiss to your lips.
“You visiting me every evening…”
A grin spread across his face.
“Heh… I might just break my leg again.”
“Michael!”
You laughed and walked over to the window, opening it to let the fresh summer air in.
“What have you been reading?"
“Nothing much.” He patted his thigh.
You lowered yourself carefully onto his sound leg.
“Will you read to me a bit?”
He opened the book where he had left off and squinted at the page.
You laughed and reached for his glasses.
“Put them on, Michael. Don’t be silly.”
“I look ridiculous with them.” He protested.
“No, you look adorable in them.”
“So, I look adorable now.” Michael said annoyed, holding them in his hand.
A laugh escaped you.
“Wear them for me. Please.” You took them from his hand and gently placed them on his face.
“Happy?” Michael scrunched up his nose and started reading.
His lips shaped each word with his familiar softness, his cheeks following the cadence of the sentences. His dark eyes darted back and forth across the lines as he occasionally licked a fingertip to turn the page. When he slipped into a character’s voice, he’d lift his eyebrows gently. Every now and then he’d push the glasses up the bridge of his nose with one finger.
“Angel, you’re not even listening.” He said without looking up from the book.
“I am...” you insisted weakly, eyes not leaving his lips.
“No, you’re not. What’s the last thing I read?” He shut the book.
“Umm…”
“What am I gonna do with you?” He said jokingly and pressed a kiss to your forehead.
“You’re so distracting.” You caressed his cheek. “So beautiful.”
He shifted in his seat and moved you with him.
“My leg’s gone stiff.”
You raised yourself slightly. “Do you want me to stand up?”
“No.” He pulled you back in.
“You’re wearing a different lipstick tonight.” He reached up to take his glasses off.
“No, don’t. Keep them on.” You looked at him through your eyelashes.
“Only for you.” He kept the glasses on and pressed a kiss to your lips.
The two of you stayed in an embrace for a while, in silence. Neither one of you moved, foreheads touching and listening to each other’s breath.
You rose from his lap.
“I’ve got to go, Michael.”
The window drew your attention. The night sky was full of twinkling stars. Michael followed your gaze.
“I saw one fall earlier.”
“You did? What did you wish for?” You turned to him.
“You.”
“Oh, Michael.”
“Couldn’t you stay a little longer?” Warm fingers closed around yours.
“I wish I could stay forever.”
“We can arrange that easily.” He turned your hand, letting his lips linger against your fingers.
Warmth rose up your cheeks, as you leaned down to kiss him good night.
“Don’t sleep in the chair again.” You gave him a pointed look.
“Get home safely.”
…
“Michael…” Your voice echoed through the hall.
Your heels clicked against the wooden floor, as you entered his room. He was not in his usual place.
“Michael…?”
He walked in from behind, dressed in an elegant black suit.
“There’s my beautiful girl.” He placed a kiss on your cheek.
“Michael, shouldn’t you be…?”
He continued looking at your white dress, cinched at the waist and patterned with gold flowers.
“No, it’s all good, angel.” He reassured you.
“Are you sure? I mean you still have a few days left…”
“The doctor said it’s alright. Said I healed faster than expected thanks to the excellent care I received."
“Michael!” You nudged his shoulder. “You're impossible!”
“Come on, gorgeous. I’m taking you out for dinner.” He offered his arm to you.
“I’d like that.” You slipped your arm through his.

maybe you’re ovulating, or maybe you’re just so down bad for your boyfriend, that anything he does or wears has you ready to risk it all for him.
that something is him wearing his glasses.
you’re trying not to make it obvious that you’re staring at him from across the living room, but he’s just so utterly adorable with his glasses perched up on his nose.
it’s currently late at night and you both have settled into your own corners of the living room. you on the plush carpet, flipping through a magazine and him on the couch with his notebook, possibly writing down some song ideas.
but you can’t help the way your eyes find their way to michael sitting so innocently, and looking so downright sexy with his glasses on. at this point you’re not even hiding that you’re staring at him with your magazine open on a random page and your wrist resting under your chin.
he’s so beautiful.
michael looks up, just to check if you’re doing okay, only to see that you’re already looking at him with a love filled gaze.
“what?” he asks, trying hard to stop a smile from forming.
“you just look so pretty.” you grin.
michael immediately feels his face flush hot with embarrassment. no matter how long you guys have been together, he always gets so shy when you compliment him.
“baby stop.” he smiles shyly.
“no im serious. you look so cute with your little glasses on.” you get up from your position on the floor, and straddle his lap. his hands automatically come up to rest on your hips, before they make their way down to your bare thighs.
“i don’t like wearing them. it makes me feel old.” you let out a giggle at how his nose scrunches up in distaste.
“nooo you look hot, really hot.” you bite your lip, leaning down so you can press a kiss on his nose, just inches away from his glasses. then you kiss his cheek, then the corner of his mouth, then when you notice the way his hold tightens on your thighs, you finally place a slow, deep kiss on his lips.
“baby.” he whispers against your lips in which you immediately shush him with another kiss.
you trail your lips down to his neck, sucking on the most sensitive spots that you know drive him crazy.
michael groans, both of his hands wandering to your ass and giving it a hard squeeze, followed by a smack.
you laugh against his neck at just how easy you can make him fold.
“cmon, put that little notebook away and let’s go to bed.” you whisper in his ear. “i wanna make you feel good.” you squeal, when michael suddenly stands up from the couch with you in his arms and makes his way down the long hallway to the bedroom.
you tighten your legs around his slender waist, knowing that in a couple of minutes, your sexy boyfriend who likes to pretend to be shy, will be punishing you so good for all the teasing you’ve been doing to him.

Mr Jackson was, first and foremost, your mentor. Somewhere along the way, early in your budding career, you crossed paths with him and he took you under his wing. You were ecstatic at first. Just being close to him was enough, but his letting you accompany him to studio sessions, ceremonies and advising you in business matters as well, meant the world to you.
"Mr Jackson, what do you think of this?" you'd turn to him to ask whether you should change part of the lyrics to your song.
"Mr Jackson, do you think I should do the hip move or stay in place during this part?"
It was always "Mr Jackson this, Mr Jackson that." Or at least, it started out that way. He wanted you to call him Michael, and you got comfortable doing so pretty quickly. You liked the way it sounded on your lips and so did he.
"You see, y/n," he'd lean in during award ceremonies and whisper in your ear "you must nurture that passion of yours."
He shook his head in the direction of the performer on stage.
"Look at her," he said in a disappointed tone. "You can read it on her face that she's counting one, two, three... That's the wrong way to do it. You must feel it. You must feel the dance, not think about." He turned towards you: "You're not like her, though. You're a natural. Stay curious, work hard and be humble, like you have until now. It will take you far."
His compliments made you feel like you were on top of the world. You loved to hear him praise you. You lived for it. Sometimes you wondered whether you were trying so hard to realize your own ambition, to impress the audience or simply to hear him praise you:
"There's my beautiful girl. You really showed them how it's done!"
"You were electrifying, angel! Really let the music take over, didn't you?"
He'd say the nicest things after you got off stage and in those moments, you swear, it was worth all the trouble just to hear him showering you in praise.
Staying by his side was intoxicating. Not only were you learning, but you were having so much fun. He'd take you to fancy restaurants, get you expensive gifts, take you on trips under the guise that you were learning the ins and outs of the music industry. Truth was - he liked you. But he kept it to himself and always remained respectful. You had a boyfriend now, and besides, you were much younger than him and he was afraid that confessing his love for you would ruin your professional relationship and affect your career. Nevertheless, underneath all those complicated feelings, he knew one thing and one thing only. He wanted you.
And you could never come to terms with your own growing love for him. It had started out as a crush - simple and natural enough, seeing as you were around each other a lot, and he was utterly charming. What you didn't predict, however, was that the little crush would bloom into a mature, a more primal desire for him.
So when you accompanied him to a ceremony at which he was honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his musical accomplishments, he was getting closer to figuring out your real feelings for him. As his protégé, you were invited to introduce him and present the award. Taking advantage of the opportunity to thank him for his support, you had prepared a speech.
His eyes followed you like a hawk as you lifted the hem of your backless emerald green silk dress and made your way to the microphone. He shifted in his seat, the gold detailing on his sleek black suit reflecting off his black sunglasses. While you were waiting for the applause to die down, giving polite smiles, he was admiring you. He took pride in being your mentor, in helping you show the world your God-given talent. In you he saw himself in his younger years - your work ethic and hunger, not for fame or money, but for excellence. That was what drew him to you most. Your beauty and charm were just added gifts that made him want to keep you close.
"I am honoured to present this award to the man who needs no introduction. I just need to say his name," you gestured to him and the crowd began chanting: "Michael! Michael!" An applause burst through too, and Michael turned to wave a hand and give a smile to the fans. "Seems I don't even need to say it, you already know," you chuckled. Your voice was heard above the last of the claps resounding through the hall.
"Michael needs no introduction," you said and he looked up at you. He had heard countless people say his name, scream his name, but somehow it had never sounded as sweet as it did when it came from you. "I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words about him. I've had the great fortune for a while now to learn from him." you continued.
"As a mentor, he is the most generous, patient and inspiring person I could have wished for. I have been blessed to learn from the great King of Pop himself. They say you should never meet your heroes, but I've met mine, and I can assure you that isn't true. I suppose it all comes down to the person beneath the fame. As a human being, there is no kinder and gentler soul than you. If only they could look into your eyes and really get to know you, Michael, maybe then they wouldn't be so quick to judge. No one else has given more of themselves to the world than you have and it's high time the world acknowledged it. This is for you, Michael," you raised the award to him.
Michael's lips extended in a bashful smile. He was moved by your speech, he hadn't expected it to be so - personal. Though you had voiced your appreciation of him plenty of times before, hearing you say it tonight on stage, before an audience, made his heart swell. He was grateful he had his shades on, otherwise people might have noticed tears forming in his eyes. He made his way on stage and gave you a kiss on the cheek.
The excitement of the night got to your head. Sitting next to him, giving him the award, getting a kiss, being taken home in his car - you were the happiest you had been in a while. And you wanted to get rid of an urge, so you asked your boyfriend to come over. You were enjoying yourself. He was doing it right the way you had asked him to. You were facing away from him as he was doing his part. You were fairly quiet, lost in your thoughts, barely letting out a whimper or two, until you were getting closer and closer. You felt his large hands on you, touching you everywhere, his kisses on your back. Imagined his face, lips scrunched up as he was nearing his own release, his breathy whimpers. Suddenly, you screamed out:
"Michael, oh, Mi-".
Your eyes widened in horror. You realized what you had done and bit your lower lip in shame. Your boyfriend stopped moving.
The next day you had a meeting with your team. The usual run of the mill meeting updating you on sales and upcoming schedules. You never seemed uninterested in them or unfocused, as your career was one of, if not the most important thing in your life. Nothing could be decided or planned without your approval. Today, however, you were completely out of it. So much so that your assistant kept shooting daggers at you for being so unresponsive. Not that it worked. The meeting ended without much being accomplished. Aware that your mood was not going to improve, your assistant shooed everyone out of office and closed the door behind her. You let out a sigh which you had been holding in for the past hour.
You didn't know how you felt. You weren't exactly heartbroken, nor were you happy that your relationship ended. The two of you had been together for almost a year and he was perfect: tall, gentle, caring... great in bed. You were even suspecting he might propose to you soon enough, which complicated matters, because you weren't really sure what your answer was going to be and you didn't want to let him down. "You don't love me anymore," he had said and you had denied it. A small voice inside you was telling you that he was right and you had already known it... for a while. You shook your head in disbelief at the situation you found yourself in. "Horrible, I am a horrible person", you thought to yourself, slamming a fist on the table. The next thought, however, was of the only person who could make you feel better.
Michael.
As soon as you realized you had thought of him, you felt heat spreading through your body and shook your head violently, as if the shaking could get rid of him.
Shutting yourself in your apartment, you made yourself a recluse. Two weeks had passed since your breakup and you were taking no calls or visitors. That was the punishment you had set to yourself for behaving so abominably, for having filthy thoughts. The invitation which had arrived for an award show, at which you were nominated and were certain to win for best summer song, you threw in the trash. Michael had called, but you ignored his calls. You felt growing distant from him, but you couldn't bear to face him with your desire for him still burning inside you.
At the start of the third week of your seclusion, Michael rang your doorbell. "Come on, doll", he urged you off the couch. "I'm taking you to dinner."
"I'm sorry, Michael. I don't feel like going anywhere, please."
"I'm not taking no for an answer, darling. You've been ignoring my calls, you've been living like a hermit for the past two weeks, and you didn't even appear at the event to collect your award," he said not reprovingly, but with a gentle voice. He sat down next to you, placing his large hand over yours, brushing it with his thumb. "What's got my favourite girl down, huh?"
The floral scent of his perfume emanated from him. You raised a pleading look at his eyes. He could sense your body tense with a truth that he was not sure he was ready to hear. You stayed quiet.
"Get ready, let's go," he patted your thigh. "You'll tell me over dinner. We haven't celebrated your win."
You shifted in your satin slip dress that emphasized your figure. Wiping your lips with the napkin, you thanked Michael for the meal.
"Well?"
Michael initiated the topic which had been looming over your heads all throughout dinner, bracing himself to hear what had you quiet and ignoring him for so long.
Your eyes wandered around the room in an effort to gather the courage to look him in the eye. He wasn't wearing his sunglasses at dinner. The penetrating gaze of his dark eyes made it seem like he was reading your soul.
"I am no longer in a relationship," you uttered.
He tried to suppress his satisfaction at hearing you say those words. It's not like he wanted to see you unhappy, but he would rather see you by his side. Not that he would ever purposefully do something about it, right? Other than throwing side remarks that your boyfriend fails to appreciate you and outdoing him each time with lavish gifts and gestures.
"Is that so?", he inquired with a placid expression.
"Yes."
Michael took your short answer as a cue to reassure you.
"It was about time you put an end to it, angel. You weren't exactly happy with him, were you?" he said confidently.
A little surprised at his boldness, you replied:
"I didn't break up with him. He did."
Michael's lips parted in surprise. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"He broke up with you? Then he must be crazy, sweetheart. And you're sad over a guy like that? He doesn't deserve your tears or you anyway. And besides-"
"It's not that simple, Michael," you interrupted him.
"Then please explain it to me. I'd really like to know what would make someone leave a girl like you," he was getting defensive over you.
"It's all my fault," you blurted out "all of it."
"I'm sure it's not, baby. Come on, you can tell me. I'd really like to hear his genius reasoning."
You felt a sudden flush of warmth in your cheeks.
"I really couldn't, Michael," you replied sheepishly.
Michael was intrigued by your reaction. He was definitely curious, but he wasn't going to make you tell him. However, he could see your inner conflict play out on your face. Your expressions always gave you away - you wanted to tell him.
"Okay, Michael. I- um, I..." you began, but quickly covered your face with your hands. "Oh, dear, this is so embarrassing," you blurted out, lowering your hands to smooth the fabric of your dress. "Promise me you won't laugh when I tell you."
He nodded reassuringly.
"I called him by the wrong name," you breathed out in one go.
Michael raised an eyebrow.
"And that's a reason for him to break up with you? People get names wrong all the time. Nothing to worry about," he waved a dismissive hand, ignoring any thoughts that your confession might have stirred in him.
"Yes, but- this, uh, this happened during..."
Michael's gaze was laser focus on you now. He was waiting in expectation for you to finish your sentence. He felt his pants tightening around him.
"...during an intimate moment."
Michael let out a satisfied chuckle.
"Don't laugh, Michael. You promised you wouldn't."
"I'm sorry, doll," he replied with an amused grin on his face.
You became frustrated.
"It's not funny, Michael. He was probably going to propose soon enough and I ruined everything."
That wiped the smirk off his face. Now it was his turn to feel frustrated.
"And, may I ask what you would have answered him if he had?"
"I don't know."
"You don't know?" his gaze bored into you.
"Why are you doing this to me, Michael?"
"What is it that I am doing, y/n?" he asked with a hint of annoyance in his voice. You weren't the only one who had been hiding your emotions.
"You're ruining my relationships. That's what you're doing. Not that you're actually doing something, it's just you're always on my mind. I try to like a guy and stay in a relationship but I can't. It's not that they're bad, but they're not you. They can never be you. It's like I subconsciously sabotage every chance at a relationship, because I don't want to be with anybody else."
Words were flowing out of your mouth, even you were surprised at your directness and Michael was taken aback by your honesty.
"Oh, my angel. If you only knew..." Michael softened and reached out to wipe a tear from your cheek. "I want you too. I just don't want to ruin things, you know. You're so young and you've got a bright future ahead of you..." He was fighting his own desires, while trying to protect you. "There is nothing more than I'd like in this world, but-"
You stopped him by planting a kiss on his lips, startling him. That was his sign of approval from you. He was completely convinced you reciprocated his feelings and all of his worries simply vanished in that moment. The satisfaction on his face returned.
"Oh, you like playing dirty." He grinned. "I can play dirty too."
The conversation was taking a dangerous turn. It was no longer one to be had in a restaurant.
"We need somewhere quiet, baby." He stood up and led you out.
You could see his jet-black hair and the way his shoulders swayed with each confident step. You had admired him for so long when he would walk in front of you, but this time he was leading you home with him. And you were going to touch and feel him, like you had always wanted.
"Now tell me, gorgeous," he turned to you as you reached his car. "Whose name slipped out? he asked, unable to suppress a teasing smile.
"Michael-" you playfully hit his shoulder.
He raised his eyebrows giving you a knowing look. He knew. You knew he knew. Yet he wanted to hear you say it. He wanted you to admit you called out his name while you were making love to another man. He wanted you to admit that it had always been him.
"Yours. Who else's?" you flashed a bashful smile at him.
Still looking at you intently, he kissed your hand.
"That's my girl! Come on, let me take you home. At least you're safe with me. We both know you won't be screaming the wrong name tonight."

(in which Michael can't spend much time in the sun, but you really want to go to the beach. So what happens when you make a compromise, only to discover that neither of you can stay away from each other for long?)
Word count: 1.8k
Warnings: 18+, mdni, sexual themes, suggestive content, sensuality, implied sexual activity, established relationship, clinginess, flirting, teasing
Notes: this idea came to me on vacation lmao, couldn't stop thinking about it, so wrote it up on the way home... gotta be honest, it gave me some pretty interesting dreams... Enjoy!
The sun was relentless over the waves, sand and anyone who dared walk beneath it.
Michael’s skin condition limited his time in bright sunlight, making it difficult for him to stay outside without protective clothing and sun protection.
You wanted to go to the beach but, out of consideration for Michael, never voiced your wish. Your need to be with him outweighed any silly little whim to spend a few hours swimming in the sea. The time you spent together was limited anyway. Because he was so busy with work and away so often, every moment you spent by his side was more precious than anything else in the world.
One evening, you were having dinner with a view of the beach and the sea. The wind carried the scent of salt water, making your dress billow around your legs.
“Michael!” Your voice came out soft and velvety. You had been waiting for him to finish the phone call and get back to the table.
“I’m sorry it took a while, sweetheart.” Michael gave you his hand and you tugged at his arm to make him sit down a little too eagerly.
“Easy, darling. I’m all yours.” He gave you a teasing smile.
“Sorry, Michael.” You kissed him on the cheek gently when he took his seat beside you. “I missed you.”
“I was only away for five minutes, angel.” His hand brushed your cheek.
You pouted.
“It felt like a hundred and five.”
He gave you a look that said you were being ridiculous. Then, he interlocked his fingers with yours and you put your head on his shoulder.
He followed your pensive gaze out toward the sea.
“You wanna go for a swim, darling?” His voice softened as his fingers brushed tenderly against your arm.
“No. Not really.” You tried to dismiss his question.
“You know you can go to the beach if you want to, baby, right?”
“Yes, Michael. I know. But I don’t want to leave and go without you. And I know you can’t go.”
You looked into his eyes.
“So I don’t want to go.”
“My girl is always looking out for me, always puts me first.”
He traced kisses along your neck.
“So needy for me? Don't want to be away from me, not even for a moment.”
“Mmmh, no I don’t.” Your body leaned into him.
“You’re going to the beach tomorrow, princess.” His voice was firm.
You protested.
“You’ve been wanting to for a while now. You don’t think I notice?”
Michael cupped your jaw.
“You know you can do things without me, right? There’s no need to ask me for permission.”
His gaze was earnest.
“I’m not like that.”
“I know, Michael.” You looked away shyly at his sincerity. Then you gathered the courage to look up at him again.
“I just want to be with you. That’s all.” You traced his arm over his white sleeve.
“Me too, baby. I’ll be there.”
You looked at him in confusion, but he kissed the top of your head and pointed out the faint sliver of the moon that had appeared on the horizon.
…
Early the next morning, while Michael was still fast asleep, you quietly stole away from under the covers and hastily pulled on your swimsuit. Your plan was to go for a swim and get back before he woke, but he sensed the empty space beside him even in his sleep.
Pushing aside the curtain, he caught a glimpse of your head bobbing above the calm waves. He smiled to himself. He was glad you had gone without him. But, the truth was… he didn’t want to be away from you for long either.
After picking up the crumpled shirt you had taken off him the night before and reaching for his sunglasses, Michael opened the doors to the balcony. The rhythmic breaking of the water against the shore filled the morning stillness. The sunbeams were strong even that early in the morning, so he went back for his sturdy umbrella.
The balcony overlooked the small, private stretch of beach, allowing an open view along the coastline. He kept back in the shade of the awning for a while, away from your view, mindful not to disturb your alone time. A chair was close by so he considered sitting down, but the railing blocked his view. He quickly decided against it.
He stayed beneath the awning, deliberately keeping himself out of sight . He didn’t want his presence to make you feel watched or make you think you had to go back inside simply because he was there.
Watching over you, he smiled at your enjoyment. He wondered whether you had applied any sunscreen before dipping in.
A wave rose, briefly blocking you from his view. He craned his neck and took a step forward. Once he was able to see your head again, he let out a sigh of relief.
You came out of the water and lay down on the warm towel. Salty water droplets were making your skin glisten in the sunlight like morning dew on flowers. The damp swimsuit clung to your body, covering it, but barely. It was a hidden spot, so you didn’t worry much about how exposed your body was. It was for Michael’s eyes only anyway.
Michael’s breath caught in his throat.
Letting your skin dry off in the sun, you reapplied some sunscreen, dragging your palm over each arm… leg…, struggling to reach the center of your back.
Michael’s eyes never left your body. Almost imperceptibly, his hand moved as if he were applying the lotion on you himself. He swallowed hard.
He took a few steps forward, almost as if drawn to you, and opened the umbrella. A cool gust of wind swept past, causing goosebumps on your skin.
Both of you stayed like that for a while, until you decided to get back into the water for one last swim. Michael was going to wake up soon, and you wanted to be there when he did.
With a short run, you entered the water, body bouncing with each step.
Michael licked his lips.
Your arms parted the water, propelling your body forward. The waves washed over you.
Turning around towards the house, you noticed Michael’s figure on the balcony.
“Michael!” Your faint voice reached his ear.
You waved a hand.
His lips curved into a smile as he raised his hand to wave back.
Taking it as a sign that you had stayed out way longer than you had intended to, you came out of the water, dripping wet as you adjusted your top.
Your hips swayed with each step.
Michael’s grip on the umbrella tightened, as though only now he remembered that he was holding it.
“I’m coming back in.” The wind carried your voice to him.
He shook his head, signaling no with one hand.
“Are you sure?”
He nodded.
You blew him a kiss.
“I love you, Michael.”
Michael reached up to adjust his sunglasses. He leaned against the railing, resting his elbows on it as he watched you. Basking in his gaze, you lay down on the towel, but faced the balcony this time.
You tried closing your eyes to dry off for a minute, but you felt his eyes all over your body. It was comfortable, knowing he was there, watching you, instead of being alone inside. Some of your guilt at indulging your wish had faded, but you still felt bad for going out. He couldn’t stay in the sun for long. And besides, having him stand there made the oppressive heat on your body even worse.
You raised yourself on your elbows.
How long had he been standing there, you wondered. He watched over you, his expression unreadable behind the shades.
You knew he would be content just watching you from afar, letting you have your moment, but you wanted to make his waiting worth it.
You turned around on your stomach, swinging your legs in the air as you looked back at him, your behind in full view for him.
Michael’s face was tense. He reached a hand into his pocket to adjust his pants.
Getting the reaction you wanted out of him, you decided to take it a step further. You flipped yourself over and spread your legs, bent at the knees, in a feigned innocent manner.
Michael shook his head with an amused smile.
He opened his mouth to say something, but quickly changed his mind.
His patience was wearing thin.
He leaned over and crooked a finger toward himself.
Your time on the beach was up.
Standing up in a flash, you grabbed the towel and made your way inside.
…
“Did you have a good time, baby?” He greeted you at the door of your bedroom.
“Yeah, and you?” You walked over to the vanity, trying to act casual, and set down the towel.
He followed right behind you, looking at you through the mirror as his arms circled your waist.
“I had the best view.” He grinned.
Your eyes found his in the reflection. It made you happy that your strategy had worked its charm. He was even needier than you had anticipated.
“You can’t stay away from me either, Michael.”
His gaze lingered in the reflection before he planted a kiss beneath your ear.
“I let you sleep. I was planning to come back before you were up.”
His lips ghosted your cheek.
“I missed you, gorgeous.”
His hands brushed gently along your sides as he rested his chin briefly on your shoulder.
“I missed you too.” You reached back, looping your arms around his neck.
“You’re stunning, you know that?”
He swayed you gently in his arms.
“Yes, you’ve told me countless times.”
“And I’ll never get tired of saying it. Because it’s the truth.”
“And I…” You looked back at him. “I’ll never get tired of hearing it.”
Your lips met.
One of his hands stayed on your hip, while the other found its way to your back. You felt the string hanging off your top loosened.
“Michael… let me at least shower first.”
“Noo…” he murmured in your ear.
“Michael…”
He kissed the nape of your neck as your top came off completely.
“I’ve got sand all over me.”
“Okay, and…” He cupped your chest.
“I’m dirty…”
“I don’t mind.” He kissed your shoulder.
“Michael, I’m soaking wet.”
“Good.” He purred against your ear.
His hand reached lower and you instinctively arched upward.
“Michael!” A moan escaped your lips.
“We have to make up for lost time, angel.”
You felt his lips smile against your skin.
“We lost quite a bit of time today…” you bit your lip, suppressing another moan.
“We’d better get started then, love.”
His body pressed you against the vanity, closing any space between you.
And judging by the look in his eyes, neither of you was going to waste another minute apart.

“Did you have a good time, angel?” Michael’s voice greeted you.
“You’re not going to believe this, Michael!” Your face beamed as you entered his car, in a gold dress barely long enough to cover your underwear.
“What am I not believing this time?” A curious smile spread across his face.
You settled next to him. “Look what I got, baby!” You bent down towards your feet, your bare back in full view.
The car accelerated abruptly and Michael instinctively extended his arm to keep you from being jolted forward.
“Is that all you got, doll? One bag?” he lifted his brows. “I definitely don’t believe that.”
“No, Michael.” You rolled your eyes at him. “The rest are in the trunk.”
“Of course! I was wondering whether something was wrong today.” He chuckled.
“I brought this one here to show you.” You pulled out a lacy set of lingerie.
Michael mouthed a silent “wow”.
“I got it because I know you like red. And you know I like white so I got that one for myself. And then I saw the black one too. I couldn’t resist. I don’t have anything like it,” you said, piling each set in your lap.
Michael watched the satisfaction on your face, already imagining you in all the little pieces you waved in his face so innocently.
“I got a bunch of them, baby. Now I see I really got carried away. Maybe I should return some of them…”
Michael raised his hand to cut you off.
“Return them, doll? No way. It’s good you got spares.”
You eyed him curiously.
“Because I’ll rip each one off you.” His gaze was intense.
You bit your lip for him to see. “Is that so, Mikey?” Your hand smoothed over his tie.
“Too bad you don’t have any of them on right now.” He glided a gentle hand across your naked back. “You’re playing it risky.”
You moved closer to him, eyes lingering on his lips.
“Only for you, Mikey,” you purred.
“But it’s not only for me, is it?” He didn’t move, leaving your kiss hanging in the air.
“What do you mean, Michael?” You furrowed your brows, hand still on his chest.
“I’m not the only one with eyes, gorgeous. Every man in that room was staring at you.” His voice wasn’t soft anymore.
“Of course they’re going to stare, baby. When I walk in with you.”
“You know full well that’s not what I mean.”
“And what do you mean, my love?” You tried coaxing him.
“At least three guys were trying to flirt with you.” Michael removed your hand from his chest.
“Were they? I never noticed.”
“Well I did. And I didn’t like it.” He straightened his suit.
“Michael, are we seriously arguing about this again?” you said, folding the lingerie neatly and placing it back in the bag .
“Are you taking me to dinner?”
“We’re not having dinner.”
You smirked. “Then you should drop me off home.”
“You’re not going anywhere, sweetheart.” His fingers circled your arm, as though he thought you might actually leave.
“Then I suggest you be nicer to me, Michael.” You pulled on the hem of your dress. “It’s always the same with you.” Your voice betrayed a hint of despair. “You want me to look good, then when I do, you get upset that people stare at me. What am I supposed to do? Will you never let me go out?”
He cleared his throat. “That’s not what I meant.”
“If you really want to know, Michael… that’s why I left the event. There was this guy that kept bothering me…”
The look in his eyes softened as he realized his anger had been misplaced. You never wanted the attention, you wanted to escape it. He now knew he had failed you.
“…even after I turned him down. But he wouldn’t go away and I didn’t want to interrupt you so I just left. I told security to tell you where I was going.”
“Oh angel… I should’ve come to your rescue.” He pressed a kiss to your shoulder.
“I didn’t want to bother you, Michael. You seemed busy.”
“Next time anyone bothers you, you come to me. Understand? No matter what I’m doing. No matter where I am, okay? I’ll take care of it.”
“Yes, Michael.”
“Promise me.”
“I promise.”
“I never want you to feel uncomfortable.” He lifted your chin. “I’m never too busy for you. Remember that. Would I let my girl get hit on by another man?”
You shook your head.
“Exactly.”
“I’m sorry, Michael.”
“It’s okay, darling. I’m the one who’s supposed to be sorry. I didn’t mean to be so harsh with you.” He kissed you on the temple.
“Now, the mood’s ruined.” You sighed.
Without a warning, you felt his left hand palm your breast under the dress.
“Michael!” His hand was cold against your skin.
He squeezed.
“Who said anything about the mood being ruined?” he replied, pressing a kiss to your throat.
“Mmh, Michael.” You leaned your back into him, craning your neck to kiss him. “I missed you. You’re the only one I care about.”
“I know, baby.” His other hand found your cheek, his thumb brushing gently over your skin. “It’s not your fault that you’re so gorgeous and I have to keep my eye on you at all times.”
You brushed your nose against his. “And it’s not yours that you can’t resist me…” You pulled away, batting your eyelashes at him.
“You’re dangerous, woman.”
“And you love me for it.” You adjusted the strap at your back.
He tapped his thigh.
“Michael! Not here!” You whispered.
“Yes, here.” He reached his hand to take you on his lap. “You’ll have to be quiet though.”
You were already on his lap.
“Here. Bite down on this.” He loosened his tie.
“But I wanted to wear the new things I got for you tonight.” You pouted, taking the tie in your hand before flashing him your pearly whites.
“And? The night is still young, princess,” he said before he jerked his knee up, making you crash into his chest.

Notes: I tried something a little different this time, also who wouldn't give into Michael easily?? but I wanted to have reader resist her own feelings a bit. Enjoy!
“Hey, you’re really pretty, you know that.”
“Am I?” You asked disinterested. “And what else?”
The guy scratched his head.
You kept staring at him.
“I’m getting out of here.” He turned on his heels.
“Good.” Your lips barely moved.
Your cigarette lighter clicked shut as the waiter brought you a martini.
As the heiress to your family’s estate, little troubled you. Money was never scarce, parties never lacking, and everyone seemed eager to be your friend. You also owned the Red Circle, a nightclub you ran with an almost obsessive precision. The only inconvenience came in the form of persistent admirers who tripped over compliments in hopes of sharing your fortune. You enjoyed the attention. But then, it never satisfied you.
A group of security guards entered the club, surrounding a man dressed in a black suit with sunglasses. You shifted in your seat. One of the guards spoke to the manager at the door while a silhouette, revealed only in flashes of strobe light, approached your table.
“Would you mind if I join you, miss?”
“By all means.” You gave a polite smile and moved aside to make way.
“Looks like you’ve got the only empty table in this place.”
He glanced around the club.
“Seems I chose the wrong night.”
Drinks were flowing, bodies swaying beneath the shifting lights, laughter rising above the music as waitresses zigzagged between crowded tables. Only you were sitting alone.
“It’s always like this.” A satisfied grin appeared on your face.
His dark sunglasses found your face.
“There’s only two reasons why a young lady would be sitting alone at a club.” He said tentatively.
You narrowed your eyes, drawing on the cigarette.
“Either she’s waiting for someone or… she’s content sitting on her own.”
You exhaled.
“I’m the owner.”
“Oh…” He rubbed the back of his neck. “I hope you don’t mind me causing a hoopla in here.”
“Not at all. As a matter of fact, we are honoured. We just weren’t informed of your coming, Mr. Jackson.” You said his name with emphasis.
“I could leave if you want me to.”
“Otherwise…” you resumed as though he hadn’t spoken, “we would’ve welcomed you accordingly, as only we know how.”
Two waiters approached. One wiped the table, the other looked to Michael.
“Orange juice, please.”
He extended a hand to you.
“Michael.”
“Y/n.” You shook his hand firmly.
In the meantime, the dancing had stopped and conversations got quieter, as word spread through the club that the world’s biggest superstar was in there. Every face was turned towards your table, while the music was still blasting.
Your manager appeared on your right and bent towards you.
“Free drinks while our guest is here. And move those tables back.”
He turned to retreat, but you called out.
“And Vincenzo… no more.”
He looked at the queue outside before nodding in understanding.
Michael glanced around the room visibly uncomfortable with all eyes on him.
“I apologize again. For coming in without notice. I just thought I might go out for a night without being seen.”
“And out of all the joints in the world… you walk into mine.”
“Heh…” Michael gave a shy laugh.
The DJ caught your eye and turned up the volume. The bass rattled the ice in the glasses. Red light rolled over the dance floor before dissolving into electric blue.
“It would be hard to, though, wouldn’t it?”
Michael tilted his head.
“Not to be recognized, I mean. The sunglasses are hardly a disguise.” You clarified.
“But there’s no need to apologize, Mr. Jackson. Even you need to wind down sometimes. That’s what we’re here for.”
“So, The Red Circle…” Michael said curiously, “sounds dangerous.”
“For those who don’t know what they’re walking into.” You exhaled smoke.
A group of people was approaching your table before security quickly redirected them.
“Mhmm…” He nodded. “And is that because of the owner or…?” A grin spread across his face.
“Amongst other things.” You stubbed the cigarette out. “If you stay long enough to find out…”
For a moment, neither of you spoke.
There was a short silence between songs. A burst of feedback crackled through the speakers before the DJ looked towards you. Someone was persistently requesting songs by a specific artist. With one shake of your head, a different track started.
Michael smiled bashfully and turned the glass in his hands.
“Would you like to join me…” he began, “tomorrow, at an after party?”
“Are you winning another award then, Mr. Jackson?” You tried to read his intention but the dark shades were making it hard.
A laugh escaped him.
“You could say that. And please call me Michael.”
“You ask strangers to after parties often, Michael?”
“Only club owners I owe a favour.”
He watched you for a moment, amused by your silence.
“Alright.”
“I’ll pick you up at nine.”
…
“Good to see you again.” A smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
“You too, Michael.” You smoothed the fabric of your dress.
The car started off.
“But I don’t see much of you. The most important part.”
A small crease formed between Michael’s brows.
You gestured towards his sunglasses.
“It seems you’re watching me, but I never see you.”
“Oh… the glasses. Heh… it’s for uh- protection.”
“Protection?”
“Yeah, I don’t want anyone to look into my soul.” His voice was earnest.
“Mhm… and does anyone include me too?”
You searched his face for an answer.
“Because I like looking a person in the eye when I talk to them. It’s the first step to getting to know them. They tell me more than words ever do.”
Michael shifted in his seat.
“Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of.”
He took them off and looked at you.
“Better?”
“Much better…”
You smiled as you admired his large, dark brown eyes with long eyelashes. He had a look of timidity in them, but it quickly gave way to something magnetic. They revealed more than he intended. Perhaps that was why he kept them hidden. The black eyeliner only emphasized their intensity.
“You have beautiful eyes, Michael.”
“Thank you.” He smiled and bit his lower lip.
“How’s the club? Going to manage without you for a night?”
“Of course. What’s a club worth if it can’t run without its owner?”
“You’ve got the place running like clockwork. You’re good at that.”
“I enjoy it. It’s my refuge. I couldn’t find the atmosphere, or the privacy I wanted anywhere else, so I created it myself.” There was pride in your voice.
“Sorry for stealing you away from it.”
“I never leave it, unless willingly.” You held his gaze.
The car came to a halt. Michael put his glasses back on and offered you his arm.
As soon as you entered, all eyes automatically turned to him and person after person came up to shake his hand.
“Hey, Michael. Who’s your friend?”
“This is y/n.” He smiled shyly. “She owns the Red Circle.”
“Is that why you were there last night? I saw the pictures.”
Your fingers tightened around Michael’s arm without realizing it.
He waved the man off.
Then a woman placed herself uncomfortably between the two of you, separating your arms.
“Michael, where have you been…”
You scoffed at her audacity and walked over to the bar. Your eyes were still on Michael. He was shuffling his feet and looking around, as the woman was trying to bring his attention back by touching his lapels. You suddenly felt very hot. It wasn’t long before a man obstructed your view.
“Hey, pretty face. You alone here?”
You rolled your eyes at him. “No. Move aside.”
A hand circled your waist.
The man suddenly apologized sheepishly and retreated.
“Is everything okay?”
You heard Michael’s deep voice behind you.
“It is now.”
You exchanged a smile and handed him the other drink.
“Oh, thank you.”
“Michael, don’t you ever get tired of-“
People crowded around him again, edging you aside.
“Michael, you should visit us in…”
“Michael, let me tell you about…”
“Michael, there’s this…”
He was trying to give everyone a moment of his attention, remaining polite as always. But his smile disappeared and his eyes were searching for you.
You were starting to get annoyed. They weren’t interested in him, they weren’t talking with him, but rather at him.
“Michael…” Your voice cut through the noise, as heads turned towards you .
He found you too.
“Let’s get some air.” You extended your arm to him.
“Excuse me.” Michael nodded politely at everyone as he let himself be led away to the balcony.
“What was that for?” He still held your hand.
“They were bothering you. I helped you escape.” You said, surprised at the boldness of your actions.
“I was talking to them, sweetheart. Th-that wasn’t very nice, y’know.”
You looked away.
“You were about to ask me something. Sorry they interrupted you.”
“It’s not your fault, Michael.” You turned to him.
“What is it?”
“Don’t you get exhausted?”
“Of what?”
“All those people… constantly talking, flattering… begging…” you had a look of disgust on your face.
“Angel, they just wanna talk to me, that’s all.”
“They don’t care about you, Michael,” you said, convinced of your own words.
“Maybe some don’t. But some people get excited.”
His words were sincere, but his expression was hard to read.
“I’m sorry. I crossed a line.“ You looked down.
“Hey…” he lowered his head trying to catch your eyes, “it’s okay.”
"Everyone wants you." Your voice sounded small.
“That doesn’t mean they know me.”
“Don’t I know you either?”
“I don’t think you do.”
You looked anywhere but at him.
A quiet laugh escaped you.
“I’ve never seen a person work so hard for the attention of someone who clearly wasn’t interested. She was practically pulling you by the collar.” You smiled, but were secretly trying to gauge his reaction.
“Not everyone who talks to me can have me, angel.”
He drew your arm through his.
“I think it’s time to leave.”
…
The following evening found you at your table at the Red Circle. There was work to be done for the expansion of the club. Plans were scattered across the table, along with documents that needed signing and expense calculations. You were puffing away at a cigarette, picking at your lower lip.
“Can this be done faster, Vincenzo?”
“Uhmm… yes, miss. It can be arranged.”
“Do it. Also, the guests… keep the club at half-capacity for the weekend. And only people we can trust.”
The reliable manager gave a nod of understanding.
“Any phone call comes through for me… let me know immediately.”
Vincenzo nodded automatically. One eyebrow lifted almost imperceptibly. He knew you avoided any and all phone calls, which is why handled them.
“And Vincenzo…”
You signed a paper and pushed it his way.
“Double the order for oranges.”
“Yes, miss.” Vincenzo smiled to himself. He collected the papers and got back to his work.
You tapped your manicured nails against the glass tabletop, as guests filed through the door, taking their place at the reserved tables. Moments from the after party flashed through your mind. Michael’s closeness, walking beside him with your hand on his arm. Everyone had been watching you, yet for once it felt like the most natural thing in the world to be by his side.
Keep on, with the force, don’t stop
Don’t stop ‘till you get enough
The song reached you, making you tap your foot to the rhythm. You kept your eyes on the door. No one of interest came through them.
…
On the next evening, Michael came in through the back door of the Red Circle.
Vincenzo leaned in.
“Miss, I took the liberty of showing Mr. Jackson to the VIP lounge.”
“Thank you, Vincenzo.”
As soon as he walked away, you made your way over.
“You love showing up unannounced.” A smile refused to be suppressed.
“I have to preserve an element of surprise.” Michael stood up to give you a kiss on the cheek.
“You go to clubs often, Michael?”
“Only to yours.”
A waiter showed up bringing a glass of orange juice and a martini.
“Did you enjoy the party?”
“I enjoyed your company more.” You took a sip.
“So did I.”
The mirror behind you caught the shifting lights, bathing the lounge in flashes of red and blue.
“You judge people too quickly… before you’ve had the chance to get to know them.” Michael said hesitantly.
“Only those who deserve it.”
“And how can you tell who deserves it?”
“By their eyes.”
Michael pushed his glasses further up his nose.
“Do I deserve to be judged?” His lips formed a thin line.
“Maybe…”
He raised an eyebrow.
“I have to be honest.” You added.
“Come on. Tell me, doll.” He straightened slightly, curiosity replacing his smile.
“You give yourself to others easily…”
“As opposed to what?”
“Being cautious.”
“Are you being cautious?”
“That depends.”
“On what?”
“On who requires caution.”
“Do I?”
“Do you always ask this many questions, Michael?”
“Only when I find someone intriguing.”
You nodded with amusement.
“You are.”
Vincenzo came up to the table.
“The phone for you, miss.”
“Not now, Vincenzo.” You dismissed him without looking away from Michael.
“How was your day?”
“I was up at the studio. Creating a little something.”
“Will you make me something I can play in here? Everything’s so boring without you.”
“Heh… I’ll try.”
Ash had fallen on the sleeve of your suit and he brushed it off.
“Do you dance?” Michael broke the silence.
“Not as well as you. And not in front of my guests.”
“That’s a shame.” He sighed.
“If you got up on the dance floor now, everyone will line up to show you their moonwalk.”
“That isn’t so bad.” He giggled.
“I'd have to ask them to moonwalk out of here, because you wouldn’t be going home otherwise.”
“And what if I don’t wanna go home?” Michael challenged you.
“Then you can help me close up.” You lit a cigarette.
“Tell me more about this place.”
“Well, I opened it a few years ago… ”
“I can’t hear you well. Come closer.” Michael crooked two fingers towards himself.
“Excuse me, miss…” Vincenzo’s voice found you through the noise.
“What is it now…?” Your expression hardened.
“Miss, there seems to be a problem.” Over his shoulder you could see security throwing someone out.
“I’ll be right over.”
You got up swiftly, leaned on Michael’s shoulder and whispered.
“Tomorrow night. One o’clock.”
…
You stamped out the cigarette with your heel. A car pulled up at the backdoor.
“Hello, beautiful.” Michael’s eyes found yours. He was alone.
“You’re very punctual.” You smirked.
“Only when a lady gives me a time and a place.”
“Come on, I have a surprise for you.”
The inside seemed unusually empty. Chairs were stacked and a soft classical tune was playing in the dimly lit space.
“You wanted to dance.” You pointed to the dance floor.
“How did you know?” Michael huffed out a laugh.
“Lucky guess.”
“Mhmm… Can I have this dance?” He reached out his hand.
You accepted it.
His arm found your waist.
Swaying slowly as the music kept on playing, you felt his body pressed against yours. He was guiding the dance gently, making it seem as if he weren’t the one in charge. You were slowly realizing he was what you had always wanted, what you had been missing, but never knew. Something about him made you want to give into him, to give it to him. Without being aware of it, you wrapped your arms around his neck and nuzzled into him.
His hands brushed gently along your sides.
“Don’t judge me too harshly, Michael.” Your voice was barely audible.
“You’re doing splendidly, sweetheart.” He rubbed a circle on the small of your back.
“You’re just saying that.”
“Everything done with love is done well.”
You pulled away from him just enough to look in his eyes.
“Do you ever wish you were someone else?”
“What do you mean?”
You followed his lead as the music carried you across the floor.
“All the fame and attention. Don’t you ever regret anything?”
“I don’t like living with regrets. I like to believe that everything happens for a reason.”
He looked at you earnestly.
“For example, I don’t regret coming in here. Because I wouldn’t have met you.”
A laugh escaped you.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I’m glad you came in.”
“And I’m glad you let me sit with you.“
There was silence between you. His eyes were searching yours for permission. Then, your lips locked in a passionate kiss as he cradled the back of your head.
…
There was no noise coming from the club. Michael knocked on the backdoor, while his security checked the front entrance.
Vincenzo cautiously opened the backdoor.
“Mr. Jackson!”
“What’s going on?” Michael said with concern. “Where’s the boss?”
“She has been away for several days, Mr. Jackson. She ordered the club remain closed for the rest of the week.”
“Do you know where I can find her?”
“I’m afraid I am of no help, sir.”
Michael studied his face, trying to see if he was holding something back.
“She purposefully didn’t tell me anything. However, I could give you the phone number of one of her girlfriends, perhaps…”
The lights blazed in the club, music booming loud leaving no room to hear your own thoughts. Your friends returned to the dance floor. Their attempt to draw you in the throng of sweaty, swaying bodies proved unsuccessful.
"I'll be fine, girls. Go have fun."
Your lips said one thing, but your face betrayed something else. For days now a feeling was oppressing your chest. The days felt emptier, longer... and your heart heavier. All of a sudden the sea of dancing people parted all the way up to your table. Your eyes had a hard time adjusting to the flashing lights. In the shadows you made out a thin silhouette striding towards you. The bright lights reflected off the dark shades.
Your heart skipped a beat.
His security melted back into the crowd as people drifted onto the dance floor.
He sat down opposite you.
With a shaky hand you lit a cigarette. Smoke clouded his face.
“Are you real or am I imagining you?”
You reached out to palm his cheek.
“I’m as real as it gets, sweetheart.”
Your hand retreated instinctively, embarrassed at having taken the liberty. You lowered your gaze.
Michael raised your chin.
“Why did you run away from me?” His voice was firm, but gentle.
“Michael, I…”
“Michael, what…?” A hint of annoyance rippled in his voice. “How long are you going to play this game?”
At a loss for words, you shook your head.
His eyes roamed over the half-finished drinks from your friends. He shook his head in disappointment and raised a hand to touch your forehead. He waved the waiter down for some water.
“Take a sip.” He took the cigarette from your hand and stubbed it out, waving the remaining smoke away.
One of your friends came staggering up to you.
“Oh! Oh my god! Michael Jackson…” She shook her head. “Mr. Jackson, I… I think I should take her home. She’s not…”
“I’ll take care of her.”
“Can you walk, darling?” He turned to you.
Unsteadily, you stood up.
“Come here, baby.” He picked you up in his arms and took you to the car.
He remained silent during the ride, only reaching over to open the window on your side. You leaned your head on the headrest, letting the cool breeze wash over you.
Vincenzo opened the door.
“Are you alright, miss?”
“I’m fine, Vincenzo.”
“Bring something to refresh her.” Michael said.
You sank into the chair.
Michael’s dark eyes bore into you.
“I’m sorry.” It was the only thing that came out of your mouth.
“I asked you a question, doll. I didn’t ask for an apology.”
Your eyes avoided his, focusing instead on the hand resting on his thigh.
“I don’t like who I become when I’m with you.” You picked at your nails.
Michael leaned forward.
“And who is that?”
“I stop recognizing myself… I start needing you. I become just like everyone else, don’t I? The ones I criticize. I’m no different.”
“No…” he shook his head. “You’re doing this to yourself.”
Your lower lip was shaking.
“Why are you making yourself miserable, sweetheart?” His voice softened.
You stayed silent.
“How much have you had to drink?”
“Not much.”
“The table said otherwise.”
“I only had one.”
Michael narrowed his eyes.
“You should’ve seen my friends.” Your shoulders shook with laughter.
“I did. One of them at least.” He couldn’t help but smile.
Suddenly he stopped. It dawned on him.
“You’ve been avoiding me.”
He leaned in closer.
“Have you been thinking of me?”
You nodded a silent yes.
“I thought so.”
He leaned back.
“Couldn’t get me out of your head?”
You nodded again.
“You should’ve said so, darling. Instead of making me come looking for you.” His voice softened now.
“I’m sorry, Michael. I… I am really sorry.”
You looked up at him with pleading eyes.
“I just couldn’t admit it to myself… or you.”
“Shhh, baby. I’m here now.” He came closer and let you rest your head on his shoulder.
“But really? That old place? Can’t even breathe in there.” A hand caressed your cheek.
“I wanted to get away, Michael. But you found me anyway.” You smiled up at him. “And brought me back here.”
“I found you once, angel, and I’m not planning on losing you.” He kissed your hand.
“Your place is better anyway.” Michael added.
A smile spread across your face.
“Vincenzo!” You raised your head. “Open the doors.”
He stared at you blankly.
“You heard the boss,” Michael said with a smile.
The flashing lights came on and the music got louder and louder. Outside, the queue finally started moving.
Michael drew you into his arms.
“Now, let me show you just how much I have been thinking of you.”
