Ranmaru Zariya is, in my opinion, a living national treasure of Japanese BL — every panel composed like a film still, every line drawn with intent.
💡 Coyote (Ranmaru Zariya, SuBLime — 4 volumes out, vol. 5 announced for July 2026): werewolf × werewolf-hunting mafia heir. The premise is fun, but the reason to reach for this series is the artist. Zariya draws sexy men better than almost anyone in current BL — and specifically, the kind of slightly sadistic top whose verbal seduction has genius timing.
The dynamic: a top who's been courting the receiver for months, finally moving in at the moment of his first heat. The receiver could physically overpower him; he doesn't, exactly. Both sides are drawn with care.
Start reading now — you'll be ready for vol. 5 next month. And after, dig into her other work. All of it is worth it.

Chapter 1 – Collision Course
AJ POV
The rain didn’t ask permission. It slid down AJ’s neck, soaked his shirt, blurred the world into streaks of silver and red lights. He was late—again—and his jaw was tight with the kind of frustration that lived in his shoulders.
AJ had slowed at the intersection when he felt the impact from behind—soft, sudden, unavoidable. Then—
BLAGG.
The impact knocked the breath out of him. AJ stepped out, heart pounding, ready to snap—until he saw the other driver. Tall. Athletic. Broad shoulders pulling tight against a soaked shirt that clung shamelessly to muscle. Rain traced the sharp line of his jaw, lingered at his collarbone like it had taste. “Bro—sorry. I’ll pay.” Low voice. Steady. No panic. Their eyes met. AJ felt it then. That pause. That half-second where the world held its breath. The guy pressed cash into his hand. Fingers brushed—just barely—warm against cold. Too warm. “I can’t be late,” the guy said, already stepping back. And then he was gone. AJ stood there longer than necessary, rain soaking him through, pulse doing things it had no business doing.
Anton POV
Anton hated being late. Hated mistakes. Hated how his chest still felt tight when he remembered the look in AJ’s eyes—sharp, tired, and somehow… inviting. He should’ve left. Instead, hours later, he waited. Rain slicked the parking lot. Anton leaned against his car, cigarette glowing between his fingers. Training had built his body, sure—but patience? That was new. When AJ appeared again, soaked, hair messy, eyes darker under the streetlights, Anton felt it hit him low and slow. “You came back,” AJ said. Anton smiled. Small. Controlled. “I said I would.” They stood too close. Anton shrugged off his jacket without thinking and held it out. “Wear this. You’re dripping.” AJ hesitated—then took it. Their hands touched again. This time, neither pulled away immediately.
The Car
Inside the car, the world shrank. Fogged windows. Rain hammering the roof. AJ’s knee brushed Anton’s thigh as he shifted, the contact accidental—but not unnoticed. Anton inhaled. AJ smelled like rain and soap and something human. “So,” Anton said, voice lower now, closer. “What’s your name?” “AJ.” Anton repeated it slowly. Like he wanted to feel how it sat in his mouth. Something curled tight and warm in AJ’s stomach. This wasn’t just tension. This was the beginning of something that would ruin routines, test restraint, and make walking away very difficult. And neither of them moved.
Chapter 2 – Almost
Anton POV
Anton drove with both hands on the wheel. Not because the road was difficult—but because he needed the control. Rain smeared the windshield. The city blurred into lights and shadows. AJ sat beside him, jacket still on, fingers nervously playing with the sleeve. Too close. Way too close. Anton glanced at him. AJ wasn’t looking back. But his lips were parted slightly, breath uneven. Anton swallowed. “You okay?” he asked. AJ nodded. “Yeah. Just… cold.” Anton reached over without thinking, turned the aircon down. His arm brushed AJ’s knee. Neither spoke. The silence wasn’t awkward. It was heavy. Charged. At a red light, Anton stopped. He turned. AJ finally looked at him. Time slowed. Anton lifted his hand—hesitated—then gently cupped AJ’s jaw. Warm skin. Soft. AJ froze, then leaned in just a fraction, like permission whispered instead of spoken. Their foreheads touched. Breath mingled. Anton’s thumb brushed AJ’s cheek. And then— HONK. A car behind them. Loud. Annoyed. Real. Anton pulled back instantly, heart slamming against his ribs. AJ blinked, flushed, eyes wide—as if waking from something dangerous. “Sorry,” Anton said quickly, hands back on the wheel. “I—” “It’s okay,” AJ cut in. Too fast. Neither mentioned what almost happened. But neither forgot. And both knew—this wasn’t something they could ignore anymore.
Chapter 3 – Safe
The car slowed as they reached the Xevera gate. Streetlights were softer here. Quieter. The kind of place where the world finally stopped watching. Anton parked just a few meters from the guardhouse, engine still running, rain easing into a thin drizzle.
Neither of them moved right away. AJ broke the silence first. “Salamat… sa hatid.” Anton nodded. “No problem.” He glanced at AJ, still wearing the jacket. It looked right on him. Too right. Anton looked away before he could think too much about it. “About the car,” Anton said, reaching for his phone. “May Viber ka? Para madali mag-update.” AJ hesitated—just a beat—then pulled out his own phone. “Meron.”
They exchanged numbers. Screens lit up. Names saved. Anton’s thumb hovered for a second before locking his phone. Another pause.
“Okay na ‘to,” AJ said, hand already on the door handle. Anton spoke before he could stop himself. “Text me when you get inside.” AJ looked back. Anton didn’t explain. Didn’t soften it. Just met his eyes like it was the most normal thing in the world. AJ nodded. “Sige.”
He stepped out into the damp night, jacket still on his shoulders. Anton watched him walk toward the gate, posture tense but steady, until the guard waved him through. Only then did Anton drive away. Inside the house, AJ locked the door, leaned back against it, and exhaled. His phone vibrated almost immediately.
Anton (Viber): Let me know pag nasa loob ka na. AJ stared at the screen, heart doing something inconvenient. He typed back. Inside na. Thanks ulit. Three dots appeared. Then disappeared. AJ smiled despite himself.
AJ was halfway up the stairs when his phone rang.
Anton in his phone screen. AJ froze. His chest tightened. Bakit tumatawag? Did he forget something? May nangyari ba sa kotse? He answered quickly. “Hello?” “Hey.” Anton’s voice was steady. Familiar now. “Sorry—sandali lang.” AJ leaned against the wall, heart loud in his ears. “Okay.” There was a pause on the line. “Yung jacket ko,” Anton said. “Palabhan mo na lang. Kunin ko na lang kapag nagkita tayo ulit.” AJ swallowed. “Ah—oo. Sige,” he said, trying to sound normal. “Okay.” A beat. “Good night.” “Good night.” The call ended. AJ stared at his phone for a long moment—then looked down at the jacket still wrapped around him. Kapag nagkita tayo ulit. He didn’t take it off.
