Do you think nurses should only work 8 hour days?
Are you referring to the bill in Washington State? Because LOL I HAVE OPINIONS, WELCOME. The schedule flexibility is one of the few perks in nursing - a difficult job that doesn’t have that many. Eight hour shifts are appropriate in some care settings (long term care, emergency dept, clinics, etc) but if all hospital staff are only allowed to work 8hr shifts, patient care would go down the tubes. No more continuity of care, no ability for nurses to stay longer to deal with an emergency… not to mention how much it would suck for the 12hr folks to have to work 5 days per week instead of 3. It’s the most ridiculous, unrealistic turn that a bill meant to protect nurse’s breaks could have taken.
And State Senator Maureen Walsh’s comments that nurses probably just play cards all day? Lol lady, was it not a hint to you that it was requiring a law to actually let nurses get the few break(s) we’re already entitled to during a shift? Do you know how often nurses go without peeing for 12 hours… or eating… or sitting down? You’re ignorant and ridiculous and I hope you don’t get a single vote when you run for re-election.
*insert post about that senator lady*
But in all seriousness - comment with how long you’ve gone w/o food/lunch/potty break. I feel lucky that my record is 9.5 hours (w/o food, I got one potty break in that time), I’m sure a lot of you have gone the full 12 or more.
Washington State Senator Maureen Walsh, (R) Walla Walla, agreed to shadow a nurse for 12 hours after taking heat for a controversial remark on the Senate floor, KOMO News reported Monday.
