Janet Jackson - That's The Way Love Goes (Max Bateman Remix) by Laruche Records
Austrian based producer Max Bateman has been churning out brilliant 4x4 remixes throughout the last year. We thought the best way to introduce you to him would be to release ‘The Late Night Activity’ EP, a project featuring 6 mesmerizing reworks. Be warned though that this release contains music that will make it impossible not to want to get up and dance. The combination of 4x4 drums, infectious synths and classic vocals will leave you yearning for more. Tracklist: 01. Justin Timberlake - Strawberry Bubblegum (Max Bateman Remix) 02. BUBBLEGUM POP: How the musical landscape has changed over the last decade or so. Listening to this remix of one of Justin Timberlake's recent album tracks today (on the radio, can you believe?), it occured to me how a non single just wouldn't have been altered or edited in let's say, 2003.
The rise of social media and platforms such as Soundcloud and You Tube in recent years however, has facilitated and encouraged new talent to show what they have, both in terms of original tracks and, as in this case, remixes.
'Strawberry Bubblegum' was a slightly difficult track to deal with in the first place. I find the clumsy references to oral sex to be quite a pain, but the production on the original was just sublime, sounding like an early 1970s Delfonics' track that had been sent up to outer space nearly forty years ago and beamed back in 2013 with a futuristic twist.
Max Bateman's remix gives the track an early 90s, two step feel (although it's called the 'Late 90s Remix') and chops the eight minute original down to a neat three minute dance number, helping to maximise on its dancefloor potential. This version trumps the original in a certain sense; I forget about the cringe worthy lyrics here and am able to get into the groove of the number a bit more.
Another summer banger to add to the playlist.
