Luke McMillin gana la Mint 400

La clásica Mint 400 quedó para un nuevo ganador en 2020, pero de un apellido más que conocido en el off-road estadounidense: Luke McMillin se impuso 32 años después de que su padre Mark se llevara la victoria en la carrera que recorrer las rutas de Nevada. Además se une así a su primo, Andy McMillin (ganador de 2009 y 2014) como triunfadores de la Mint 400. 

Con un tiempo de  6 horas, 49 minutos y 52 segundos, McMillin fue capaz de derrotar a los experimentados Bryce Menzies y Ryan Arciero, que completaron el podio.

El equipo autor del mejor tiempo de clasificación,  Concrete Motorsports, lideraba la carrera con buena ventaja cuando sufrió una falla en la culata de su Trophy Truck, cediendo la lucha a Aricero, McMillin y Menzies,  en la vuelta final de las cuatro necesarias para recorrer las 428 millas. Arciero parecía quien iba a quedarse con el triunfo, pero sufrió un pinchazo lento en la parte final, entregando la punta a McMillin, quién no miró atrás. Finalmente sobre la línea de meta, Menzies le arrebató el segundo puesto a Arciero. 

"¡No puedo creerlo!" dijo Luke McMillin. “Trabajamos muy duro. Esta camioneta, la construimos en 2014, y no puedo creer que hayamos ganado la Mint 400. ¡Esto es increíble! "

En otras categorías, Robby Gordon y su hijo Max Gordon ganaron la clase UTV NA, disputada el día viernes en las preliminares.

The Village Vanguard: New York's Bright Red Shrine To Jazz

Dan Fisher has developed an excellent essay touching on the essence of the Village Vanguard through the decades. For me, it was a home away from home, often sleeping on the benches along the back wall, waiting for Godot. I even got married there once as did Michel Petrucciani. Max Gordon was a warm and loving man and his daughter Deborah has picked up where he left off.

Remembering Lorraine Gordon at the Village Vanguard

Ethan Iverson’s reminiscences of the Village Vanguard’s Lorraine Gordon are right on point. Lorraine was as acerbic as her husband and Village Vanguard founder Max Gordon was not. It was quite an adjustment when Max died and Lorraine returned to take the reins. She was very much like Miles Davis – always on the attack to test you. If you fell for it, she’d eat you up alive. If you didn’t, you were a friend for life. Much like Miles. Deborah, the daughter of Max and Lorraine, now operates the venerable club and she has a lot of Max in her, but some Lorraine too.
