Max is an abstract oil painter from Washington, D.C. He received his B.A in Fine Art from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts in 2012. As an undergraduate, he held multiple teaching assistant positions and developed a thesis and exhibition on the history and practice of ancient line drawings. Postgraduation, Max continued to pursue art education with various organizations, including Arena Stage in Washington, D.C, where he created and implemented several art courses. Throughout this time, he continued his practice and accepted an artist residency at the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo. Prior to pursuing his MFA, he also co-founded an independent printing studio, showed his work with Transformer Gallery in Washington, D.C., and was a gallery assistant for Vander Zee Gallery in Alexandria, Virginia. He is currently a candidate in The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts MFA program and lives in Philadelphia.
