Green light new bulbs

I’m moving forward with energy efficient LED bulb replacements for the bathroom vanity. The search began for the right bulb and for the background of the company making the chosen bulb.

The vanity requires a medium (standard) base bulb in globe, decorative G25 format and 40 watts. The current bulbs are warm in color at 2600K, and put out 410 lumens.

I went to a couple websites specializing in light bulbs to find some LED replacement options for the incandescent bulbs, lampsplus.com and 1000bulbs.com.  I compared the results there with amazon.com and a couple home improvement stores like Home Depot.

By narrowing to LED bulbs and the wattage, color and lumen range that I was looking for, the options were quickly limited. Ultimately, I landed on a bulb that matched the criteria I was looking for, made by MaxLite, which is US-based and follows Buy American Act and Trade Agreements Act to support certain groups (municipalities, schools, etc) achieve energy efficiency goals.

Earplug Review: Howard Leight Max Lite NRR30

This is an appropriate earplug review to start with - the Max Lite is one of the only “smaller” size plugs commonly available on the market. The trademark green color and flared shape are easy to spot in the wild. I’ve seen this given out in loud factory tours and SAT exams - they are that common.

Specs - NRR: 30 Length: 28 mm Expansion Rate: 41 seconds L-R NRR33 Comparison: indistinguishable Durability: high

After years of rubbery drugstore earplugs, this was the first earplug that I was able to easily insert on the first attempt, no fussing. They expand slowly and smush down nice. The length is 28mm but due to the substantial 8mm or so flare section, it made no threat to my eardrum. I’ve used these for weeks with no visible degradation. The only drawback I can think of is the NRR30 rating, but as the comparison to Moldex shows, I could not tell a difference.

Verdict: RECOMMENDED
