never forget that the "selection" series had the main female character, america, understand that history is told by the winning side and thus can be manipulated only through a joke told by her love interest, the prince, in which their first kiss was awful and he jokes that they can tell everyone that their second (and much better) kiss was their first kiss and nobody will know but them. And I would call this an early-2000's misogyny red flag, you know, dumbing down america so much and only having her understand politics through the reference of ~love~ but, you know, at least they did it to the main male character too. Because at one point he learns that the people at the bottom of the caste system were starving only because america describes having her stomach growl one time. so like, at least it was consistent between the male and female genders, of kind of being a dumbass when it comes to politics but suddenly caring when it had to do with their future spouse. anyways the selection series was wild and I'm going to be honest I am- and always was- hashtag team Maxon i fucking hated aspen's ass the *second* he was a whiney bitch ass baby about america providing a meal for him. like she was going to MARRY YOUR ASS DUDE oh buddy oh boy don't get me STARTED. and then on the other hand you have beautiful amazing- sometimes whiney but at acceptable levels- Prince Maxon and his swoon-worthy lines and the cute as fuck America/Maxon dynamic. The choice was always obvious TO ME. and like going back to the America/Maxon thing and the stomach growling thing my man heard a story about his future wife's stomach growing ONE TIME and the motherfucker like. created a whole new system to set up food banks for the entire nation, and he still did it in a way where America's family was still getting sent the same amount of money as they were before so they were still provided for. HE BOUGHT HER A HOUSE. oh my god do I need to re-read selection again like bro
the selection is the only series where I will accept girls acting like pick me's because that's the only way you win the selection.

currently re reading the selection by kiera cass and it is so funny how from the very first moment maxon was deeply in love with america. america is always like "why does he want to see me? did something happen??" meanwhile maxon is one step away from proposing to her
let’s normalize not having perfect clear backs.
currently thinking of the hunger games and the selection
the hunger games with their capitol and their games with the purpose of enthralling the capitol citizens and serving as an example to the public of the capitols power. with some kids exciting to be apart of the games with the hope of fame and money. with the girl and revolution that changes the way they live, and the way their society functions
the selection with their selection process, broadcasted to their public to help pacify the rebels and distract the general public from the rebel attacks. also using aspects of the selection (the convicting) to show the power of the royal family and to serve as an example for anyone else that may cross the king.
overlapping in moments to the point where there are moment where I feel as if the selection is the hunger games on the other side of it. I read the selection, enjoying it and I feel like I am part of the capital. that I am part of the problem
reading the selection series is like watching a train crash in slow motion and i cannot look away for a second
