Karaja, "She Moves (La La La)" MV 2002.
I was in a lecture today (about place; and the philosophy of place; and place and its legacy on romanticism; and painted place) and we watched this video of a lyrebird at the end. And it made me think of a movie--I haven’t seen since I was really really young--that I like, totally forgot existed.
But yeah, just sitting there in the back row watching this video of a lyrebird fucking around in the bush (and after seeing all these cool Aus landscape / bush paintings) I was just like lol, this reminds me of Dot and the Kangaroo. Which shortly after turned into a HOLY SHIT DOT ANd the kangaroo!!!!! Awh man... and like, all the memories at that point.
But yo, shoutout to Dot and the Kangaroo. Such a great fucking movie. I remember it being like a mix of live action and animation? Probably. Also remember that there’s a rather politically regressive, very dehumanizing, super early colonial European settler portrayal of the Indigenous Australians in this movie. Which is not great. And I mean, it came out in the 70s (and is set even earlier I think) and apparently and unfortunately people thought like that in the during that time period. But yeah. I still remember the film fondly. Have great memories of watching it with the family. And if you haven’t seen it, I strongly recommend it. A quick google tells me it is on youtube (the whole film), so I know what I’m doing w/ the rest of my night.
Gettin dat puthy since 2002
