I don't think it's rude to call out biases in the fanbase, when it comes to people's favorite characters or ships. For clarification, this is in response to a post you made feeling the need to defend Elijah and justifying all his actions, while unfairly blaming Klaus for everything, even things that aren't his fault. Because according to you, people blame Elijah for Klaus becoming the villain in his own story, when to my knowledge, nobody has ever blamed Elijah for that. And even if they did, what does it matter? Why let it bother you to the point that you felt a need to make a whole post defending Elijah?
I get that Klaus has his faults and he has done a lot of messed up and bad things, but he is not to blame for every single thing. Everyone else has their share of faults too, and things they should be accounted for. It's not just Klaus. And as much as people like to point fingers at Klaus fans, the truth is, Elijah fans aren't much better and are just as bad, if not worse. Elijah fans always criticize and put down Klaus or any other character, but the minute there's the slightest bit of criticism towards Elijah, it sets everyone off. Meanwhile, anyone else that defends their favorite character or ship gets chastised for it. Unfortunately, that's just the truth.
Defending everything your fave does and never holding them accountable to anything and acting like they do no wrong accomplishes nothing. Nobody is absolved from criticism, including Elijah. It's confusing as to how people still don't understand this, even almost after almost a decade that the show has been over.
I think by feeling called out by me stating I have had some "rude" asks, it may speak to how you know your words and tone are perceived. Especially considering your last ask, I assume, was from the beginning of July based on you having the exact same opinion and tone. As I'm sure you've seen, I have dozens of asks that I am sorting through, so yes I am disregarding a lot that I don't feel warrant a response, but since you re-sent, I will respond.
But first, what do you hope to get out of this interaction? Are you hoping to change my mind? Because you offered almost no argument as to why I should think the way you do. Are you hoping to have an honest discourse? If so, I suggest changing your approach. More likely, you were upset by something you read/saw on my socials and wanted to "upset" me in response.
But here's the thing, this fandom is so big there is no reason to interact with content that upsets you. It seems like you either follow me or look at my page a lot since you saw I was back relatively quickly when it contained zero TVDU tags. If so, I appreciate your support and I'm sorry you feel upset by something I posted. Moving on.
You say I'm biased. Yes, I am. Everyone is. That is a part of being human and I say this in so many of my posts. You say I defend Elijah on everything. That's false. I hold him accountable for a lot, I just don't devote my entire page to it because there are enough people out there doing it. And quite frankly, it's not fun for me.
I personally have never criticized a Klaus stan. I have a lot of friends who are Klaus stans. More than I have that are Elijah stans. I am sorry if one of my posts made you feel bad for liking a fictional character. That is never my intent. I can't speak to exactly what post because you didn't cite one.
I also don't get where you say I defend Mikael and Esther, but not Klaus in the original ask. I, like it seems you do, like to look at characters in more than just "abuser/not abuser." They are all complicated and even the very worst of them do have sympathetic qualities or backstories. Analyzing this is not defending. I agree there is no excuse for abusing others for anyone, but just like you don't want me to say "Klaus has abused someone so no one should like him or even analyze his character," I don't think it's fair to be mad because I analyzed Mikael and Esther.
But it is also disingenuous to say Klaus stans don't say negative things about Elijah and take it to an extreme. Not all Klaus stans, and not even a majority, but they are out there and often loud. You ask why it bothers me and the short answer is, it doesn't really. But that's kind of what we do here. Creators have their niches and one of mine is analyzing the characters, especially Elijah. I don't know what you expect from a blog about a TV show. If you don't like reading things like that, block me or block certain tags. Lord knows I follow certain people but have tags blocked because I don't care to see certain topics.
I do also know there are Elijah stans that can take it too far. But it sounds to me that you are taking things a little too personal. By analyzing a character, we are not attempting to analyze you and the way you relate to a character. Elijah is a deeply problematic person and we should call that out, but it doesn't mean I can't like the character and enjoy analyzing it. Just like for Klaus. I'm sure, if you have content, it's not equally full of critiques on Klaus as it is of the positive. That's just not how most people interact with fandoms.
The reason Elijah stans typically say Klaus stans come for Elijah is because Klaus is one of the most popular characters in the show, so there are so many of you. I would show you countless examples of Klaus stans being dramatic, but I honestly don't feel like putting my energy into that. I prefer to interact on my socials in a way that brings me joy. I love to have honest discussions. I have so many online friends who we don't agree on nearly anything, but we have a respect for each other and enjoy the discourse. So I'm sorry you were offended by something I posted, but I hope you take this to heart and also choose to engage with the fandom in a way that brings you joy. There are definitely enough Klaus stans to keep you busy for a while!
Thanks for the ask!
