hi! Absolutely LOVE your writing! You're super talented and I really appreciate you taking the time to do it! If you're still accepting prompts: Henry accidentally calling Killian 'Dad'? It's a favorite of mine! :)
A/N: Thank you so much, @foundmyhome !!!! You’re so sweet!!
I’m sorry this took so long to answer. I rewrote this probably four times? And it’s not very long. But either way I did it and I hope you like it. Some feelsy fluffy Captain Cobra with a hint of Swan.
Dad.
Their wedding had been small, neither one needing a grand celebration. The story of how Emma Swan and Killian Jones found true love was grand enough on its own. Killian had asked Henry to be his best man and Emma didn’t think she could love him anymore for it. Her pirate and son had grown so close that to anyone who didn’t know the truth, they’d think Henry was Killian’s real son. The two went sailing, on hikes in the woods, Killian even helped Henry with his homework. The Swan-Jones family soon realized the pirate had a knack for solving any math problem and he was now Henry’s go to whenever the young boy had trouble. The three had become quite the family unit, something that neither Killian nor Emma thought they’d ever have.
Emma was sitting at her desk at the station. The newest villain had recently been defeated and the amount of paperwork she had to go through because of it was atrocious. She let out a long sigh, stretching her arms over her head and gazing at the clock on the wall. It was practically lunch time- the perfect moment to take a quick break. Just as Emma was reaching for her jacket, she heard the door to the station opening, followed by loud footsteps and quiet banter. She smiled wide as two people came into view.
“Grilled cheese and hot cocoa for my beautiful wife.” Killian smiled, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek and placing the bag on her desk.
“You didn’t have to.” She smiled back, her heart leaping from her chest at the sheer joy on his face as the word “wife” left his lips.
“Well, Dad and I figured since we were already there we might as well bring you something before we go sailing.” Henry said, taking a sip from his own hot chocolate.
The moment “dad” came out of the boy’s mouth, Emma and Killian looked straight at each other. Emma's smile grew, her emerald eyes glistening with emotion.
“You know, I’m just gonna wait outside until you two are done making eyes at each other. Mom was totally right, you do it all the time.” Henry rolled his eyes and laughed, heading for the door.
Emma waited until she was sure Henry was out of earshot before speaking. “Killian…”
“Aye, I know. Do you- do you think he meant to say that?”
“I don’t know.”
“Should I say something?”
“Maybe you should wait and see if he says it again before bringing it up.”
Killian simply nodded in response. “I should go before he comes back in. He’s as impatient as his mother.” He winks at her before kissing her chastely. “I love you.” Killian calls out as he heads for the door.
Emma laughs. “Love you too.” She shakes her head in amusement grabbing her sandwich and diving back into her work.
It wasn’t long before the two men had the boat safely out into the harbor. The moved around the small sailboat with ease, tying ropes and hoisting sails.
“Hey, Dad, how do you do tie this knot again?” Henry calls from his spot towards the front of the boat.
Killian stops dead in his tracks, startled. He quickly recovers and makes his way towards his step-son; grabbing the rope from his hands and tying the knot himself. “Henry?” Killian pauses, scratching the stop behind his ear. A nervous tick which he knows his Swan finds adorable, though he does grimace at the word adorable. A fearsome 300 year old pirate is not adorable or so he likes to think. “Can we talk for a moment, lad?”
“Am I in trouble?”
Killian can’t help but chuckle, “No, no. I just want to -”
“Is this about me calling you ‘dad’?” Henry cuts him off.
“You are as perceptive as your mother,” Killian shakes his head, sitting down on a box and motioning for Henry to join him. “Henry, you know…you don’t – Just because I married your mother doesn’t mean you have…”
“I don’t consider you my dad just because you married Mom.”
“You don’t?” Killian looks at the boy with wide eyes and a hopeful grin.
“No, I do because…Well because you just are. I mean obviously biologically you’re not, but you are my dad. You love me and protect me and teach me how to sail. You help me with my homework and give me advice. You do all things a dad is supposed to do, even when you didn’t have to.” Henry looks up at Killian, “If it makes you feel weird, I don’t have to call you ‘dad’. I just never really had one until you came into our lives, mine and Mom’s I mean. Plus, it’s kinda cool having Captain Hook as a dad. How many people can say that?”
“Just you, my boy.”
“So, can I keep calling you dad?”
“Aye. It would be an honor.” Killian smiles, placing his arm around the boy’s shoulders.
“Awesome.” Henry turns wrapping both his arms around Killian, hugging him tightly. “I love you, Dad.”
Killian closes his eyes and smiles, making sure to keep this moment in the back of his mind. “I love you too, lad. More than you know.”
