Daryl stood there withhis head bowed low as Shane verbally tore into him. He wasn’t there. No he wasover hearing it all, sitting on the porch, he’d almost entered the house beforehe heard Shane’s voice, telling Rick and the others how they had to get rid ofDaryl.
“He’s a drug addict, dowe really trust him around Hershel’s girls?” he asked.
“I never saw him usedrug-“ Lori was cut off quickly.
“When his brother washere I saw them. He has a bag full of them,” Shane said.
Daryl could just seethem all, watching Shane, some maybe agreeing with him. he knew why Shanewanted him gone, he caught onto Shane real quick, about Otis. Daryl only had togive Shane a look and it seemed the man knew.
“He’s been searchingfor Sophia” Carol’s voice sounded tired.
“You really think thatlittle girl is going to approach him?” Shane asked. “hell we don’t even knowwhat kind of shit he and his brother got into before all of this” Shane saidmatter o fact.
His voice dropped low, “Rick,for all we know he could be in that group Randel came from” he said.
“Shane you’re doing alot of assuming” Glenn said suddenly. “he seems like a good guy” he added.
“Who’s the cop here?”Shane asked. “Yeah I’ve been keeping a close eye on that redneck… he’s dangerous”Shane said with finality.
Daryl decided to makehimself known, he stepped through the door, making his boots hit the floorharder than needed, he looked up and everyone’s eyes landed on him. he glancedat everyone. They gave him awkward looks before looking away.
“Where have you been?”Shane suddenly asked, he moved in and got in Daryl’s face.
Daryl met the man’seyes before her spoke, “checking the perimeter… all’s clear,” he said in a tonethat showed Shane that he wasn’t afraid of him.
Rick had to step in topush them both away from each other, “relax, Shane” Rick said firmly as hepushed his partner back.
And then Rick turnedback to Daryl, hands resting on his gun belt. “you sure that Randel didn’t tellyou anything else?” Rick asked him.
That hurt. Darylglanced around the living room at the accusing eyes. How quickly they would easilyturn on him. “Yeah-“ he was cut off.
“do you really stillhave Merle’s drugs?” that was Andrea.
Everyone looked at herand then back at Daryl.
Daryl saw their eyes,when he didn’t say no, he nodded his slightly as he realized how it was goingto be. “I’m going to head back out to the tent,” Daryl said in a low voice.
“It’s not safe, you’resupposed to sleep in here” a young voice suddenly spoke up.
Everyone in the livingroom looked over to see Beth Greene standing by the kitchen. She looked angry. Armscrossed over her chest. She was almost glaring at everyone in the living room.
“Yeah… I’ll take mychances” was Daryl’s reply, he started to turn and leave the house.
“No, you saw what happenedto Dale, you’re sleeping in here Mr. Dixon” Beth said as she walked pasteveryone and up to him. she looked him in the eyes, her courage faltering a bitwhen the redneck eyed her up and down.
“Beth, you don’t wanthim in this house” shane said suddenly.
Beth spun around, “excuseme, but this ain’t your damn house and I get to decide who stays in my damnhouse” Beth said getting angrier.
“no it’s my house” Hershelsaid as he walked down the stairs, he gave everyone a look before he looked athis youngest. “And I would prefer it if none of ya were in my home” he said.
Rick almost rolled hiseyes at the old man.
“but since that can’thappen… I’m afraid that Mr. Dixon, will have to sleep on the porch” Hershelsaid.
Daryl was done beingpassive aggressively punched. He went to leave again when a hand landed on hisarm. He shot a glance and found Beth there.
“what is wrong with allof you?” Beth suddenly said, “this man goes out every damn day looking for agirl who ain’t even his. He hunts for us all and he’s protected everyone here”Beth soun ded strong and emotional. “you’re really going to throw him out becauseshane tells you to?” Beth asked.
“beth you are out ofline” Hershel said.
“No I’m not!” Bethshouted, she was done being treated like a damn child. “Daddy, I’m sorry butyou are wrong,” she said firmly. She looked at Shane, “did you tell them whatreally happened to Otis?” she asked.
Shane’s bemused facewent bitter real fast. “You shut your mouth you little-“ Shane had advanced onBeth but he couldn’t even finish the sentence because Daryl was faster and hadShane on the ground grabbing at his now bloody nose.
Daryl held his pistolin his hand, having used the butt of it to hit Shane in the face. “Don’t youever do that again” Daryl threatened. He stepped back and looked at everyonewho looked shocked. Andrea rushed to Shane’s aid, Maggie was still lookingshocked. Hershel was glaring at them all.
“Daryl ain’t the dangerousone here” Beth said finally. And then she grabbed Daryl’s hand and dragged himthrough the group and toward the stairs.
“Where are you takinghim?” Hershel asked shocked.
“He’ll be safer in myroom” Beth murmured as she kept dragging him up.
Rick could be heardtrying to calm Hershel down.
Beth pulled Daryl untilthey reached her room and then she shut the door. She stopped and gripped herbedpost, as what she just did hit her.
“I think your daddy’sgonna come up here and kill me” Daryl said in a low voice.
Beth spun around andlooked at him, “no… I won’t let him,” Beth said with a deep breath. “Everyonedown there is so damn ungrateful” Beth said with a shaky breath.
Daryl removed hiscrossbow and set it against the wall. “That the first time you told anybodyoff?” Daryl asked suddenly.
Beth only shrugged, “wecould all be dead tomorrow and they’re treating you like some sort of monster,”Beth said sadly.
Daryl shrugged; “usedto it” was all he could say.
“We could all be dead tomorrow,”Beth said again.
Daryl furrowed his browat her, “what are you going on about?” he asked. She was turned away from him;she ran a hand through her blonde hair. “hey Beth-“
Beth had turned aroundand took a quick step and her lips were on his, her hands fisted in his shirtand she stood on her tiptoes.
Daryl was so shockedthat he fell back into the door, his hands gripping her waist, he wanted topush her away but she was soft and warm. Her breath was minty and damn it hehadn’t been surrounded by anything like this ever in his life.
Beth knew this wasstupid. She really did. However, it felt so damn good, she’d been thinkingabout doing this for a few days now. He was manly and big, broad shoulders andshockingly soft lips. he tasted like smoke and nature and it only made her wantto climb all over him.
He gasped a little andBeth’s tongue slipped into his mouth, he grunted and suddenly his hands were onher legs and he was lifting her. She wrapped her legs around his waist and hewalked them back to her bed. They both fell over in a heap.
Beth let out a giggleand Daryl pulled away from her and looked back into her blue eyes. She wasbiting her bottom lip. He had to make the right decision. “Beth we can’t…”Daryl said as he gently stood up from her. he fixed his shirt and his jacket,ran a hand through his hair.
Beth knew he was right.She sat up and fixed her shirt. “I know… I don’t regret it though,” Bethwhispered softly.
Daryl glanced at her, “neitherdo I” he replied. He gave her another once over, he cleared his throat andshrugged his shoulders a little bit.
Beth was blushing; shelooked him over and wondered if it could ever happen again. She didn’t realize thathe was wondering the same thing.
The next night, whenthe walker herd ascended on the farm, when the group became scattered… whenShane ended up dead…
Beth stood by herfather, everyone was trying to regroup, she was worried and she hadn’t seenDaryl. Until the sound of his motorcycle filled her ears. She watched as he maneuveredaround the wrecks and pulled up to the group. He shook Rick’s hand and Carolgot off the back of the bike.
Daryl stood a few feetfrom her as everyone regrouped. Beth didn’t care. She walked up to him, leanedup, and pressed a kiss to the corner of his lips. He furrowed his brow at herbut he also looked relieved to see her. She squeezed his hand gently before sheturned away from him, ignoring the looks from the group.
Fortunately, news fromRick made everyone not focus on Daryl and Beth… so Daryl was free to watch her.And she would touch him whenever she could.
