May had been feeling the effects of morning sickness again and needed fresh air. Bobbi hadn’t exactly cleared her of bed rest yet, but it should be any day now and she was getting stir crazy. Coulson wasn’t home at the moment to stop her either. She gathered up the kids and took them for a walk.
May was tugging down her shirt making sure the very small bump beginning to show wasn’t visible when Abby took off running ahead. May looked to where the girl was headed and for a moment she was overcome with absolute fear as she looked upon Magneto. Metal flew around his head and Abby was heading right to him.
She subconsciously held on to her bump as she began to take off running, but Jacob stopped her.
“No, mom,” he said. “I’ve got her. You’re not supposed to be active.”
He handed off Sophie’s to her and chased after the girl. May followed at a brisk walk. She now recognized the shapes in the metal, the ones that attracted Abby. She watched as Abby approached Magneto inquisitively. Images of his past deeds flashed through her mind. Rationally she knew he had been helping Haven, but that didn’t mean she wanted her children anywhere near him.
When she reached Abby, she bent down on her level and scolded her. “You can’t run off like that. Promise me you won’t do that again.”
She glared up at Erik, still talking to Abby, “Especially not to people you don’t know. There are bad people out here.”
When the girl ran up to him Erik often a gentle smile and answered her question about the dragon. When the dark haired woman ran up rather defensively, he didn’t take her attitude to heart. Well aware of his past and how people considered his deeds it didn’t offend him. She was not the first, and would hardly be the last to be hostile to him. As long as slurs and violence were not offered he could remain civil. He did promise Ororo. Plus there was the children to consider.
“You are quite right. Though the most dangerous things are outside our walls, not everyone is kind. Or would protect children” Erik tipped his head back down to look at the young girl. “You should always ask permission first, before running off to play.” Excellent lessons all of them. As a teacher despite any adult’s attitude he tried to implement those into the young ones.
He cupped the air with one hand a chunk of metal swarmed up and floated above it, forming into a knight that featured in some of his stories. “What looks nice and pretty can hide an ugly truth. What looks like a monster sometimes should be avoided, and sometimes would never hurt a child.”
