Press conference on Meheula repaving project
Mililani – Mayor Kirk Caldwell and Councilmember Ron Menor will hold a press conference TODAY marking the start of the city’s Meheula Parkway and Anania Drive road repaving project.
The press conference will take place Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Meheula Parkway and Lanikuhana Avenue.
Immediately following the press conference, crews from the contractor Grace Pacific will begin the heavy machinery work of scraping old pavement off the surface of the road to prepare it for the new asphalt which will be laid down beginning next week. Tree root mitigation and curb and gutter work were completed earlier this year.
By the end of this year, the contractor is scheduled to repave Meheula Parkway and Anania Drive from end to end, a total of 31 lane miles at a contract cost of $13,763,564. One short portion of Meheula, from Ainamakua Drive to Koolani Drive, was paved in 2007 and remains in good condition therefore it will not be repaved as part of this project.
Mayor Caldwell will also provide an update on his plan to repave 300 lane miles per year for five years in order to repave all 1,500 lane miles of city roads that were deemed unsatisfactory when he took office.
Many of the side streets in Mililani were repaved last year while arborists were working on mitigating the effects of tree roots which have lifted portions of Meheula Parkway over the years.
A joyous victory for our Mayor, City Council, Honolulu, and our No. 25 Mililani/Waipio/Melemanu & No. 35 Mililani Mauka/Launani Valley neighbors!
