Same anon as last time, just finished book 1. I forgot how sad this series starts out? Like between grace, the fire, and Dan's photo in the subway in paris? :/

oh my gosh yeah!! I forgot about it too. It must have been really traumatic for Amy and Dan to see grace's mansion in fire, you know, because their parents had died in a fire too.... and then to worsen things, the only solid memory they had of their face, the picture, was gone too..

And also after grace died, Amy and Dan didn't have any adults to look up to. Beatrice is...well... a jerk. Nellie is not really a....mentor kind of figure either. It must have been hard for them to carry on with the hunt
