“Happy birthday mo-!“ Mazella had begun to greet until she noticed that High Queen Crystalia was not alone. “M-my Queen!“ she quickly corrected herself as she began to blush from embarrassment. She reached up and quickly took the white hat off of her head and clutched it to her chest as she bowed deeply. “I-I did not realize you had company already. My apologies, High Queen Crystalia. I won’t intrude further. There’s still plenty of day left,” she said softly before standing straight and turning to make her way back out of the ice garden of Crystalia’s domain. 

She heard the ice queen call her name and she paused while getting out the colored joker from her deck of cards. “It is okay, my queen. It is your day to spend how you wish after all,” Mazella said in response. “Enjoy your company, and should you need me, I’m just a summons away,” she added before the card became a big doorway to her room.

As the master of ceremonies walked through her portal, her hair changed from the minty color it had become for the day back to the normal dark teal color she kept it. Her outfit also changed from the powder whites and blues she had chosen back to her one of her usual purple suits. The hat in her hand remained the same as it was originally white in the first place. However, she did clutch it tighter as her portal closed behind her. “Why was I not informed?” Mazella knew she needed to check with the guard she asked to take her place for the day. It was still quite early in the day too. the lady of the cards sighed and placed her hat on the bed before leaving her room. She was confused and embarrassed and she needed to get to the bottom of this.

Meanwhile back in Crystalia’s part of the grand castle she brought a hand to her cheek. “I wonder if she ever realizes how beautiful she has grown up to be...” she mused quietly in a motherly way. “However, I am worried what will be going through her mind now if she was not aware of you being here Idium,” she said in a normal tone as she turned back towards her guest. 

“She did seem quite caught off guard,“ he responded. “I had not realized what day today was, my sense of time has been skewed for while, but I knew I had to make good on my promise to you,“ Idium said as he looked at the bouquet of flowers he had given Crystalia, that she had set down when she stood and called to Mazella as she was leaving. “Had I been more aware...I would have brought something more.“

“Idium, seeing you and knowing you are safe is the greatest gift I can get from you right now. I tried not to worry, but I still prayed you would be safe in your travels. I often hoped that I would see you again and here you are. Just by showing up you have made me happier than I can express,“ she explained. Idium looked at her fully and smiled a bit bashfully. It was high praise that he almost felt he didn’t deserve.

“Will Mazella be alright, though?“ he asked. “I do not want to be a cause of distress for her. If there is anything-“ he began but then stopped as the high queen held up a hand.

“She is likely looking into the matter herself. She is not concerned greatly about you. Her reaction and actions would have been different. She is more concerned about not knowing you were here,“ Crystalia said and then looked back at where she last saw the young queen that denies her title. “And that you possibly saw how she looked today. It is...something special she does every year on my birthday, and I think she still tries to keep it for my eyes only,“ she said and sighed softly. “But that would be for her to explain so I shall say nothing further on that, expect that it is quite sweet. I will check on her a little later so do not worry Idium. For now let us catch up more before others of the castle come to find me for my special day.”
