Mecha/Tokusatsu References in Dandadan (Pt 2, S02E12)

Kinta's redesign incorporates a lot of the same design aspects from last episode (including the Mazinger-style forearms, as someone pointed out last week). However, we get some new cool aspects including the clear Gurren Lagann reference in the glasses.

This is a classic "launch callout" reference, complete with the rough sketchy lines highlighting the pilot's eyes.

I'm not certain on this one, but I'm fairly sure that this is a direct reference to something from Ultraman, given the clear Ultraman influence on the rest of the series.

this bit (sorry for the bad screen recording) is a definite reference to the "slow-mo" z'gok standing scene from the original Mobile Suit Gundam.

I didn't capture it in the clip, but Kinta even does this little smirk.

This little bit of running animation is *probably* an Ultraman bit, but it reminded me of a similar running scene from Evangelion.

Lots of references here. The "WG" is a classic anime trope of flipping the "M" to avoid infringement, given the use of what is otherwise the MG logo and box-art style. Apart from that, this seems to mostly be referencing the MG RX-78-2 2.0 box.

This is 100% a Shin Godzilla reference.

Finally - girl in the box trope (as seen in Gurren Lagann), but she's also wearing the Evangelion plugsuit.

Great episode for pointing out references, but the animation in this episode was also really something to look at. Super distinct style, I think this animator did a little work on the OP for Season 1 but its nice to see him get a whole episode.
